Chapter 8

When Anna opened the drawer, the light blared into her eyes and she and Josh squinted as Anna put her hand in front of the light. Soon, the light slowly faded away and shown what was inside the bright drawer. There was a small key in the drawer. Josh stepped forward and picked up the small rusty key. It was golden but you really would not be able to tell with all the rust and dirt it was covered in. Anna remembered that in Naomi’s room, there was a large chest but when they tried to open it, they noticed a small key hole that must had been locking it.

“The trunk!” said Anna, running up to Naomi’s room. When they got to the hallway where the room was, Anna jumped forward and made the door fly open, making dust flick all around the area. In the room, blood was still everywhere just like it was before. In the far corner of the room, there was a huge chest sitting there. It was covered in dust, dirt, and cobwebs. Something was guarding it. Not just with the fact that it was locked, but there was a strong guard actually sitting on top of the large box. When Anna walked into the room, she was careful. She looked around, cautious of the guard on the chest. Slowly, Anna and Josh crept forwards to get to the chest.

“Stop!” yelled the guard. He had a very deep voice as he spoke. The man was a spirit, he was transparent, but he looked like an old guard who’s only duty was to never let anyone to pass that line between that chest and the rest of the room. The guard stood up. He had on iron armor and a red feather flowed on the top of his helmet. He drew out his old sword that had been cleaned and was now shining and very sharp. Anna jumped back at the guard’s alert.

“Why are you guarding this chest so… contently?” asked Anna, very brave inspite of how terrified she really was inside. The guard simply sat there.

“This trunk is soul propert of Naomi Lou. You must not tamper with it.” The guard said, his voice sounding like a robot. His voice sounded creepy but at the same time, very still. Almost like a robot that had been sitting for thousands of years. But he was no robot. Anna stepped one step forward and the guard quickly jumped off of the large trunk in the corner. He swung at Anna’s long black hair as a warning shot. A small, thin piece of hair fell onto the ground and turned gray. Anna and Josh stared in shock as the guard had cut off her hair and sat back down on the chest.

“You better stay back now.” He said, “This trunk is soul property of Naomi Lou. You must not tamper with it.” Just as before, his voice sounded as if a man had recorded his own voice for the furture and put it on repeat for whenever someone might come along to try and disturb him. Anna held onto Josh’s arm as she led him out of the room into the hallway and closed the door.

“We have to see what’s in that trunk!” said Anna. Josh shook his head.

“Anna, we don’t HAVE to… I mean, we could go look at other areas of the house for more possible ways out.” All Josh really wanted was to leave, but then, so did Anna. Anna shut her eyes and took a deep breath. She opened her eyes and shook her head.

“Josh, there could be a way out through that tr—“ Anna was cut off. She started hyperventilate. Josh looked around.

“Whats wrong?” he tried to whisper but what came out was shouting as we was afraid for Anna. “Anna is it something I said?” Anna bit her lips together and shook her head ‘no’.

“Josh there’s something on my leg!” she said, shaking her leg about, apparently trying to get this ‘thing’ off. Josh looked down at her feet. He saw nothing.

“I don’t see anything there.” He said.

“I know!” said Anna, “I can’t see it either! But there IS something there! I can feel it!” she shouted. Blood started oozing out of her leg and it started to turn blue as her leg lost blood.
