Chapter 3 - Decorating

The next night Severus came back with a bottle of sleeping draught. He handed it to you and waited for your reaction. You looked at the bottle for a moment, a shocked expression on your face. You looked up at him.

'Thank you Severus, you didn't have to do that....' He looked at you with an unreadable expression. 'I wanted to give it to you as a gift since you've been so nice to be.' he said quietly.

You smiled and invited him into the cafe for your usual drink and company.

Over the next week you two had grown closer and became friends. He would stop by your cafe at night and have a black coffee and listen to you talk about your day, he didn't say much himself but you enjoyed each others company none the less. 

Whenever he stopped by he would sit on the chair by the fireplace and Charlie would come over to him and rest by his feet or on his lap. Both of you were content with your little interactions. It was a part of the day you both looked forward to.

Christmas was only a few weeks away and you wanted to start putting up decorations. So after you closed the store early you headed down to the store early to buy some. You bought a good few bags of things and decided you were happy. You had also gotten a large Christmas tree to put up in the corner of the cafe. On your way back to your shop you stopped by the flower shop and picked up some cute bouquets. 

You brought everything up to the cafe and started decorating. The Christmas tree had already been set up in the corner and you were currently working on hanging some wreaths around the shop. Christmas music was playing in the background and we were dancing and humming along to it while decorating.

You turned around to see Severus leaning on the door frame smiling at you. You felt your face heat up. 'How long have you been standing there?' 'Five minutes maybe.' he said casually. 

'What are you doing?' he asked while looking at the bouquets in your hands. 'I'm decorating the cafe for Christmas.' You said with a smile. He looked at you. 'Would you mind helping me, Severus?' you asked. 'What can I help you with?' You grinned. 'I've already gotten most of the decorations set up , I just need to put these bouquets somewhere and decorate the tree.' You said gesturing at the tree. 'I'll only be a minute with the flowers, after I'm done we can start on the tree.' He nodded and watched as you quickly went and put up the flowers into vases. After you were satisfied you turned back to him. 'Let's start decorating the tree!'

You two had started with the lights, somehow you had gotten Severus tangled up in the wires. You giggled as he struggled to get himself untangled. 'Some help would be nice.' He grumbled. You looked at him with a mischievous smile plastering your face. Instead of helping him get untangled from the lights you decided to plug them in. A yellow glow surrounded Severus as the lights were turned on. He glared at you but his face quickly softened when he saw you laughing.

'Can you please help me rather than mess around, I look ridiculous.' he mumbled. You had stopped laughing and looked at him, a smile on your face. 

'You don't look ridiculous Severus, you look cute.' He blushed at your statement. You felt your own face heat up. 'Wait sorry, no i didn't mean it like that. I mean you are cute, but you know anyone would find you cute. You are cute, but not in like gay way, definitely not-' he watched you at you rambled on. 

After a while he spoke. 'Are you done now?' You blushed and looked down. 'Can you please help me get untangled from the lights?' You nodded and untangled him. He thanked you and you both continued to decorate the tree.

Neither of you spoke to each other until you finished. You looked around the cafe, trying not to make eye contact with the man next to you. You were satisfied with your decorations and you turned back to Severus. 'Thank you for the help.' You said quietly. He nodded and you both sat down near the fire. You glanced at him. 'Are you mad at me Severus?' He raised his eyebrow. 'Why would I be mad at you y/n? You haven't done anything wrong.' You looked down.

You decided he should probably know about your preference towards men, he deserved to know. You knew it made some people uncomfortable and you wanted to tell him until he found out on his own. You sighed. 'Hey Severus, can I talk to you about something?' He hummed and looked at you. 'So I think you deserve to know this, and I understand if you don't want to be friends with me anymore because it might make you uncomfortable.' He frowned at you. 'Why would I be uncomfortable? I care about you. I'm not just going to stop visiting you.' You gave him a small smile. 'So, umm, how do I say this.' You let out a breath. Lets just get this over with. 'I prefer men over women.' he looked at you. Merlin I'm coming out again.  You continued talking 'I've always been like this, I can't help it.' He continued to look at you. You couldn't tell what he was thinking. You held your breath. You had nothing more to say. 

'Y/n...' You closed your eyes waiting for the insult. 'Y/n look at me.' You shook your head, you didn't want to see the look of disgust in his eyes. 

Suddenly you felt a pair of cold hands on yours. You looked up at Severus. Tears dangerously close to falling. 'Oh Y/n, I'm not disgusted that you like men. It's fine to love whoever you want to.' He said with a small smile. 'Besides I like men and women, so it would make no sense to be mad at you.' You were speechless, you didn't know what to expect but it certainly wasn't this.

You started crying, you don't know why.  Maybe you just needed to cry. But they weren't sad tears. They were happy tears. Happy because the man you care about supports you and likes men also.

Severus looked at you and suddenly pulled you into his embrace. You were shocked but continued to cry. You couldn't stop crying as Severus rubbed your back for comfort. It was so warm in his embrace, you felt safe. You didn't want him to let go. 

When you stopped crying you felt exhaustion weight over you, you had probably cried for at least ten minutes. Your eyes felt heavy and your body was numb.

 You felt your eyes close and you drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
