Scheven's sword went straight through her keck. Her beloved's head dropped to the ground, and her body fell limp. In grief, Soleil dropped to her knees. Scheven left Luna's cell unfazed and came to Soleil's. "Soleil, you betrayed all of Zellarid. We wanted to kill you, but Beau convinced Anastasia to save you and her. Now that she is dead, don't you think you should be with her?" Soleil's face was cupped in her hands. She looked up to Scheven and examined the blood on his sword. "I must be here for Soren." she ran to the back of the cell, so Scheven would come in. However, before he could shut the door she ran out. He followed her, but she ran faster. "I'll come back for you, Soren!" she yelled through her tears. She had reached the stairs, but her long skirt doomed her. She fell to the ground and let darkness consume her.
That was only a few weeks ago.
But for Soleil? It felt like just a few seconds.
She sat now between her wife and her son.
And her teen years become that much clearer.Agreed on their plan, they decided to bring it forth to their parents. They entered the royal tent, where all of their parents had been taking refuge. Noticing them, King Luan rose and barked at them. "What are you doing here?" he asked. Luna stepped forward. "I have come up with a plan, father. We are in agreement that we believe that the best way to get rid of these creatures is to go after them from the source, from the heart. The heart lies within the Isles themselves; their leader's heads. We have found a guide to these things, which has been completely accurate so far. Should it continue to be so, if we show these vile beings their leader's head they'll take it back to the Isles for proper burial and know not to come near us again." The others stood behind her, not knowing what else to say. On Luna's word, Anastasia came forth and presented the map in her book to the royals.
"How do we know this is accurate?" Anastasia's father asked as he looked at the map with the others. "It was right about us elves." Ideus jumped in. "And we found two creatures who match your descriptions." Soleil said to the Queen who had given them the most details that day. "Should they be able to get there, this could work." King Marxnie said, leaning back away from the book. "And if they do, the place will be crawling with who knows what." Arlie's mother said, doing the same thing. "But if they get there and they succeed, we can all go home." King Luan said, returning the book back to Anastasia. "But what if they never get home?" Soleil's father jumped in. "What if none of us ever get home?" the King of Faormen snapped at him. "If I may..." Soleil jumped in. "We all agree that this is the best option. It'll be our lives on the line. We are willing to risk this, aren't we?" she turned to the others, who nodded in agreement. "We understand the dangers. But we also understand that we aren't a group of ordinary teenagers. We've all been granted something by our ancestors, and if that doesn't win us the battle then I don't know what will."
They had all agreed that they would let them go, so long as they took a messenger bird to send to them when they were almost home. They agreed, and they searched the beach to see if any of the crow masters had been able to save one. Luna pulled Soleil aside, and she tried to hide her blushing cheeks. She had grown to really like Luna, perhaps in the future more than a friend. She had heard her say to Ryaxleb that she didn't really want a relationship, but Soleil hoped that she might be able to change that. "You... you spoke well in there." she said, saying something fully nice for once. "Thank you, you did too." she said, making Luna blush.
Their parents had ordered some townsfolk to start building a boat for them, but told them to rest for their journey instead of helping. They attempted to go and help, but they were denied. Calxyan and Beau had made their presences known by never leaving Ryaxleb and Anastasia's sides respectively, angering Ideus. Soleil wasn't sure why, all she knew was that Beau could be annoying at times and he and Ideus likely got off on the wrong foot. With Ryaxleb unavailable, Luna and Soleil were able to talk more by themselves. They had finally begun to talk of things other than their mission. They talked about the others, giving each other insights on the others from their kingdom.
"Xayah's always trying to prove herself worthy. She's the only one of us that isn't a ruler by birthright, she'll only be able to be a Queen if she married one of us. She's nice, but we're best friends. Besides, I'm not one for romance anyways." she said as they sat back, watching them. "I'd much rather have her ruling Faormen than Ideus. He's always distracted by something, or someone." she said, looking at Anastasia. "Her, Princess Anastasia. What's her deal?" she asked, looking at Soleil. "She's got a good heart, and that makes her put everything on her shoulders. She cracks easily under pressure. She doesn't let anyone else take her blows while she takes all of ours too." Soleil said, and they looked to Anastasia, Ideus and Beau. They were reading her book together, but the boys seemed to have a silent fight.
"What about Prince Ryaxleb?" Soleil asked, looking over to him and Calxyan. "He's a good friend. But like Ideus, he's always distracted. He goes from boyfriend to boyfriend all the time. I'm surprised they've lasted this long. Well, with all the chaos it's hard to break up and find a new guy I suppose. Calxyan's alright, but I think he could do a lot better." They watched the two for a moment, who had their arms around each other as they watched the world go by. "And Princess Arlie, what's with her?" Luna asked as they returned their gazes to her and Xayah. "She's always serious. She trains with her dagger all the time, rarely letting herself have fun."
"Arlie's the opposite of me, I suppose. We're both extremes, and Anastasia is in the middle. What about you all?" Soleil asked, turning to Luna. "I'm most like Princess Arlie then. Xayah is similar to Princess Anastasia, per your description. Ideus and Ryaxleb would be closest to you, but they aren't anything like you. You're different, Soleil." she said, turning to her. Their faces were close, and they both silently addressed it. For a moment they stayed, before Luna backed away quickly. Soleil did the same, but they both blushed and looked off to their friends.
They all piled into the small tent that was designated for the royals. They had apparently made good work on the boat, but it would need much more time to make sure it was sea worthy. Soleil couldn't sleep, so she went out of the tent to look at the stars. As she exited the tent, she saw Luna standing in the ocean wind. Her dark skirt flowed behind her, and her silhouette blocked a small sliver of the sky. "Princess Luna?" she asked, but she didn't hear. Luna dropped to her knees, and Soleil heard the muffled sounds of sorrow.
