It was finally the day when Kagami was turning seventeen.
Adrien Agreste, Chloe Bourgeois, Luka and Juleka Couffaine and many other heirs and heiresses of the elite class families were invited and, were on the VIP list.
When the Tsurugis said birthday, it was more of a royal ballroom event than a birthday. So many famous people, rich class people showing off their classy attitude.
Marinette thought it would be like any other birthday party, so she dressed lightly. She wore a white but elegant-looking dress, which was to her knee-length, and had delicate rose designs on her left shoulder.
She put her hair into a small bun, and with that, she was ready for the party. Alya had joined her from her apartment. She and Nino just looked perfect for one another.
"You cleaned up nice, dudette! Someone's going to get smitten tonight," He said the latter version under his breath.
"Who someone?" Alya enquired, to which Nino replied, "You will see,"
When they entered the hotel, Marinette's dress not only got one smitten person but lots of them. She was the walking definition of simple yet, beautiful.
Many enquired as she entered the ballroom.
"How much did the dress cost?"
"How much do your parents earn to afford such a magnificent dress?""Oh boy, you look stunning!"
"Care to join in a dance with that stunning dress of yours, madame?"Alya came to her rescue. If the normal people went so overboard, what will happen when they enter the VIP section?
Besides, Marinette have to go check on her parents if they needed help with anything. Her parents had been nothing but very supportive of her throughout her life. They were on duty in the VIP section.
"Let's go Marinette! Adrien must be waiting for you!" Alya winked, leaving a flushed girl behind.
Marinette felt stupid when she felt her previous love for Adrien resurfacing over the past few days. Just when the time she was getting over him, he managed to make her fall in love with him again.
Why was fate so cruel?
The trio; Nino, Alya and Marinette finally opened the doors of the VIP section. Every face turned to them, looking as if they were scrutinising them.
Somewhere in the corner of the room, a boy coincidentally dressed in black formal was waiting for his friends to arrive. When the doors opened again, he was about to scold Nino for what took him so long.
But he stopped. He was momentarily frozen by the angel which had descended to earth and entered his life. Shamelessly climbed the walls of his heart and stole it from him.
And right now, she had stolen his breath as well. It felt like she had vacuumed out all the air inside the room, making everyone breathless. Such a simple yet elegant statement of fashion was going to make tomorrow's headlines, Adrien was sure of that.
Alya nudged Marinette towards his direction, making the girl clumsily trip over her heels.
Adrien being the perfect gentleman, gracefully balanced her on his one hand, saving her from the fall.
"Th—thanks me— you Adrien!" Her stuttering was back yet again, which Adrien found quite adorable.
"No worries Marinette, I'll always be there to catch you when you fall," He hugged her, burying his nose into her blue hair, "You look beautiful, Marinette." He whispered as they released each other.
Marinette furiously blushed and muttered, "You— you look good as well," She shyly smiled, making eye contact.
"Alright lovebirds, let's go dance!" Alya cheered, as she dragged Nino into the stage, where many of their classmates were dancing with partners already.
Adrien gently picked up her hand and looked through his lashes, "Shall we?"
Marinette smiled confidently and nodded. Soon, both of them were dancing, sometimes being the spotlight of the room. Marinette waved back to her parents, who encouraged her with a bright smile on their faces.
"I hope a certain cat will have some yummy passion fruit macarons left," Adrien added, innocently blinking at her. Marinette giggled.
"Speaking of cats, you could break the curse you know, a true love's kiss is one of the atmospheres of the ballroom!" Marinette smiled genuinely. She was going to shut down any feelings if only for him to get rid of the curse.
Adrien blushed, "I am not so sure Marinette, it may be a one-sided love—"
"Huh?!" Marinette was sure Kagami liked him back, any person with eyes could say that! Unless there's something else going on..."Marinette, I need to tell you something," He added urgently. Internally, he knew Marinette was right, and he wanted to do this today itself.
Marinette was about to say when Kagami politely knocked her.
"Yes, Kagami?" Adrien practically spat her name when she broke their dance. Kagami looked taken aback, but she maintained a neutral expression.
"Happy Birthday Kagami!" Marinette cheerily said.
"Can I have a moment with Adrien please, Marinette?" Kagami said in a chilly tone.

Kagami brought Adrien to a secluded balcony of the hotel. She clasped her hands and began fidgeting.
"Please tell me whatever you want to tell quickly Kagami, I don't want to keep Marinette waiting," He said impatiently. He had noticed how Kagami had her hair in ponytails, which looked weird on her.
"Adrien, what do you see in Marinette that I don't have? I did the ponytails she does every day, I am the perfectionist, I can be clumsy sometimes too—"
"It isn't about copying someone Kagami. Anyone copying Marinette won't make them Marinette. She has a heart of gold, she's polite, kind, compassionate, brave—"
"But I always get what I want, Adrien. Forgive me what I am about to do, but it's for a good cause, I know about your cat curse, and I'll make sure you will be one,"
With that, she started aiming for his lips. Adrien was taught from the very start how one should never kiss you on the lips unless it's your true love, and he for one knew Kagami was nothing but a selfish player.
For several days, he had investigated Marinette's dizzy spell timings and one thing he found common was it took at the same time when Kagami kissed him on the cheek.
He after that realisation had kept his distance. But during this deflection, she had kissed him on the hands too many times.
Finally, he snapped.
He broke the glass railing rod and exited out of the automatic open-close windows of the balcony. He quickly pressed the close button, enclosing Kagami. But before she could press it open, he used the glass rod to block her exit.
Now, he had to find Marinette as quickly as possible. Because if not today, he felt it would be two bodies that would get out of this building the next morning.
All his thoughts froze when he saw the ballroom a mess, people crowding at a certain place. When he managed to get inside the crowd and look at the chaos, he saw;
A boy of his age who looked like he'd just fled from jail.
