Chapter 4

(Reader's POV)

I woke up to my cousins trying to drag me out of bed, but when I realized I was going to see Bunny I practically led them out of the room. We went to the park around the same time as yesterday, and sure enough Bunny was exactly where I found him before. I told my aunt I would be exploring the forest so she wouldn't worry.

Bunny greeted me with a big smile. "Ready to help me again?"

I nodded eagerly, and allowed him to hoist me onto his back. He hopped and slide through the tunnels until we reached the entrance of the warren. The eggs spotted me and began to jump with excitement. The warren looked greener and brighter than I remembered.

"These little ones started looking for you when you left."

The eggs surrounded me as Bunny put me down. I felt welcomed and relax. Bunny helped me walk through the herd of eggs and led me to the paint fountain.

"Now we got a lot more eggs to paint. Easter is in two days." He handed me an egg and a brush. "Can I count on you to help me?"

"Yes." I stroke the egg with purple paint.

"That a girl."

He stroked eggs that made their way to the paint fountain. Some of the giant eggs and I led the blooming eggs to Bunny. He would smile and continue painting any part of an egg that wasn't painted.

As I led the seventh batch of eggs to the fountain, Bunny heard my stomach growl. He stared at me for a bit. His nose twitched. "All I have is carrots," he finally smiled. "Let's feed you." He hopped off the rock he was sitting on and led me to a tunnel with a hill in its center.

The hill was covered with corrots burried in its soil. The sunlight hit perfectly to where I could see every carrot on that hill.

Bunny hopped over to the hill and grabbed a handful of carrots. "It's either this or chocolate. The chocolate can taste like whatever you'd like. Would you rather have that?"

I smiled. "Sure."

He handed me a piece of chocolate. "It should taste like the finest vanilla ice cream you've ever had." He waited for me to bite it.

I bit into it slowly. The chocolate melted into a thick cream. The cream tasted just like vanilla ice cream. It wasn't cold, but it was evident that I had vanilla ice cream flavor in my mouth.

"You like it?" His eyes were wide.

I nodded as I bit another piece of it. I couldn't help myself. I wanted more.

"Unfortunately, I can't just fill you up with chocolate, but will that do for now?"

"Yes. Thank you, Bunny." I embraced him tightly.

He wrapped his arms around me without hesitation like before. "Glad to help."

His ears suddenly flung straight up. I could feel his nose twitch. He let go and smiled.

"What is it?" I looked up at him.

"It seems the fountain is overflowing with eggs. Let's go help them."

I smiled as we went to the fountain. He ordered the eggs to quickly get out and let the other eggs in. I used a basket to get as many eggs as I could out of the paint. I almost fell in as I reached for one more, but Bunny quickly took a hold of my arm.

"Don't worry. I got ya." He winked and sat me down. "We can't have your aunt wondering how you got paint all over yourself. I already have enough problems with Easter."

"It's two days away..."

"Yeah. My work will be done for a while. I can stay down here and relax."

"Stay down here?" My mind raced with no's and please see me's. I needed to see him. "Why not visit some people. Children love you." I smiled.

"Yes, but I can't exactly go around hugging every child I see." He sighed. "You want to see me again don't you?"

He knows!

"Yes." I closed my eyes, hoping there would be no disappointing answer. After all, it had only been two days. How was I expecting Bunny to feel about me?

He looked at the eggs jumpining in and out of the fountain for a bit. Then, he looked at me. "(_your name_)," he looked into my eyes, "I have a deadline, and you're older than a child. I can only do so much. I'm sorry to say it but--"

"Stop it, please..." I looked away. "I don't want to hear this."

"Then, I don't know what to say, but Easter is our last day." He got up. "Come on. Let's get you home."

(Bunny's POV)

She went home in silence, but there really was only so much I could do. With Pitch possibly watching my every move I couldn't afford to spend too much time with her. Strangely, that made me want to see her more. I couldn't concentrate on painting the eggs while she was gone. I don't like making humans cry, especially human girls. She was a tough one, but I could see she was going to break any second.

In my head, I officially decided that Easter would be my last day with her. Tomorrow, she and I could paint and hide eggs in the countries that celebrated Easter first. The problem is if Pitch shows up, which I knew he was aching to.

I continued painting eggs, but I caught myself trying to catch her scent in the wind.

What are you doing to yourself, Bunny? ... What is she doing to you?

I shook my head and decided to go to the man in the moon for help.
