A World Of Magic!

"Happy Birthday Wisteria,"

Yes, it's me Wisteria Barloc celebrating her third birthday in
this new world with her small family.
I am born as a girl again and somehow survived the embarrassing life of a baby with the mind of an adult. I always have to remind myself again and again that I am no longer Clyde and have been renamed by my new parents. Fair enough. It seemed birthdays here were more of a traditional and sacred affair. I really liked it. Today my parents tied an orange colour ribbon to my tree. Yeah I have my own tree. They have a tradition here. People especially the parents or the
guardians plant a seed or sapling right when a baby is born. And on each birthday till the baby reaches 10 years they tie a ribbon to the plant. For each year it's a different colour. For 1st it's white, 2nd yellow, 3rd orange, 4th pink, 5th red, 6th green, 7th blue, 8th violet, 9th brown and for 10th black. Since I am named after a flowering vine, technically I had two plants planted on the day I was born. A wood apple plant and a wisteria vine, so the vine wraps around the plant as it grows to a tree. I am born in April. My 1st brother celebrated his 9th birthday by tying ribbon on his oak tree and my 2nd brother celebrated his 6th birthday on his maple tree. 1st brother is called Clovis Barloc born in August and 2nd brother is called Alviss Barloc born in November. My father is called Emin Barloc and my
mother is named Amara Barloc. Our surname was granted to us by the then emperor to my great-grandfather when he
represented as an excellent actor in a play. That makes us false nobles as per rules here because the title was an honorary one which didn't include any estate or land. I knew all this from brother Alviss. He loves to read books and dig-up information. He doesn't hesitate to include me every time I look at him with interest. But all these information still doesn't make me used to this world even if it's been 3 years. Why you ask? Because it's a world of magic! Let's go back to 2 years ago to when I discovered it.

I was having normal day like any one year baby would have, coddling with my parents, playing with my brothers and trying to walk. I had picked up a lot of words from the new language in this world all thanks to brother Alviss. He had
finished learning alphabets when I was born and when I started crawling after a few more months I would always go near him while he read out words loud. I would silently lie down on my stomach and watch him practice. After noticing it many times he gradually made me sit on his lap when he studied. He could read children's books by the time I turned a year old. He didn't talk much or play around, which made me conclude that he is an introvert and a nerd. My other brother Clovis was completely opposite. He loved going through all sorts of games and among all of them he loved swinging his wooden sword around. Since he was 5 years he has been learning a few tricks and styles of swordsmanship from our neighbor who is a city guard. He absolutely loved it when I jumped, cheered or clapped when he did a cool move. That day brother who was 7 then made me sit on a stack of wood outside while he practiced with his sword. I was hyping him up like always. 2 hours later I was bored and wanted to do something else but since I couldn't go down by myself I sat up quietly. A few minutes later my 2nd brother came out. He was carrying a book and when he saw me he knew I wanted to go with him. He quietly came near me and tried to pick me up. But I was too much for a 4-year and he fell down with me. His palms were scratched and I banged my nose too hard. Brother Clovis came running towards us and took us inside. Both of us were teary eyed but were trying really hard not to cry. Mother inspected us carefully and then something absolutely unexpected happened. Some bluish light and sparkles appeared from her hand and a few moments after it touched our injured parts, our pain and wounds disappeared like it was never there. I couldn't feel anything anymore. I remember staring so hard at my mother's hand that everyone laughed even my 2nd brother. Well they didn't know it was actually a 28 year old spirit from earth was staring cause her mind was screaming with disbelief. From then on I was on a mission to discover every detail about this world which looked so similar to a European village from the 19th century in Earth till now. Then it seemed as a completely new place about which I had no idea about.

From that day till today I have collected a lot of information. Also I am proud to say that I can speak and read the new language called 'Giri' fluently. I can also write words and
sentences but on an intermediate level. From what I have known we live in a world that is called 'Nen' where everyone possesses magical powers. We specifically reside on the western part of the Eastern Empire of Concord which is being ruled by the royal family of Kinsley. The present emperor is the 3rd generation of the family.

The magical powers are basically elemental magic. There are four elements- air, water, earth & fire. The magic power is basically measured through different levels. They are of four levels-A, B, C, & D. Each level has two stages- early and later. These are determined by the number of mana rings formed around the heart in which mana is stored. Mana is official name for magic power. So that implies at most you can have 4
mana rings. At early stage the mana ring is flexible like a rubber band and on late stage it becomes strong like a metal band. All this can be felt through concentrating while using
mana. Usually a child awakens their mana around 10 years of age. That's a major reason why the first 10 years are celebrated by tying a ribbon to the tree. Then they gradually practice to grow it as much as possible. The growth stops at 18 years of age. Everyone starts at level-D stage early with only one element. It can be any element but it automatically opens,
you can't choose it. Most people end up at level-c stage late. There is an advanced form of each element that awakens at level-c late stage. For air it's hurricane, for water it's rain, for
earth it's vegetation and for fire it's volcano. At level B people awaken a second element among these four which is also randomly given and can be used for 30 minutes a day. Level-B stage-early comprise 10% of the population and level-B stage late comprise 5% of the population. At level A the second element is freed of its time restriction and can be used as long as you don't run out of your mana. Level A stage-early are found 1 in a 500 and Level A stage-late are found 1 in a 1000. The levels and stages indicate the amount of magic stamina you have from goes from D to A, from stages early to late. The
higher the level you have the stronger and the longer period of
time you can cast the magic.

I have been reading a book secretly which talks about how specific mediation techniques help in growing your magic powers faster. My parents brought this for my 1st brother who will have his mana awakening only a year later. It's
explained in a very simple language and sounds interesting. I have decided to try out a few tricks after finishing reading this book. Even though I am too young, I will be careful and won't proceed further as soon as I feel any kind of discomfort. Let's see what happens...
