Gosh, guys, Watty time has come, even though we didn't have an official announcement yet! The submissions to the Watty Bootcamp are opening up tomorrow. I'll know who my mentee is going to be soonish, so I wanted to catch up on and tell you what I am doing to prep for Watty in the meantime.
I start with looking at my eligible books first and deciding what I should prep. I assume that like before, everything started in 2021 and later is going to be eligible, and the same completion criteria (50K, marked completed). We don't know yet if that's the case, but I am running with that.
Quick Tip! Psst, whenever I start a book on Wattpad, I add the First Published Date to the Blurb/Summary on that book right as I hit the post button. Like, literally spell it out. It makes it easy to see if the book is eligible for Watty.
While I totally think that 'submit everything that is eligible' approach is valid, personally, I prefer the 'pick my battles' approach and focus on preparing fewer books.
Three of my books: Lone Werewolf, The Centaur's Tomb and Raised by the Mafia had been submitted last year and are eligible in 2023. However, I don't want these books to be exclusive to Wattpad. Hence, they are out of the pool (and so will be Played by the Mafia once I have a novel version).
2023 is special for me as well, because ONC landed me with a surprise novel, The Tetrachromat. I'm hoping to finish it and enter it into Watty as a 'raw' book, without any prep, but I'm giving it 3 to 4 days a week, leaving the rest of my time to edit my two other entries. And, boy, do they need TLC!
And so, my first decision of this Watty season is made. I will have two books I will strive to enter and one 'maybe'.
What about you? Are you Team 'enter all that's eligible' or Team 'choose your battles wisely'?
