aurelia's pov

it was the end of the school day, and it was super normal like always. my life is so ehh right now tbh.

i completed my biology homework and just chilled for a couple minutes with my fan on, since it was like ninety degrees.

i was honestly so bored just scrolling through tiktok so i decided to just drive around buford and blast music. maybe i might stop at the bhs fields where people hangout.

i got in the car and blasted tyler the creator and some other fire artists. i sang along loudly and even got a side-eye from a kid in the backseat in the car next to mine.

as i pulled up to buford high school i encountered the baseball fields and saw a game going on, and i decided to go cause why not? i play softball and there basically the same thing soo..

i parked and made my way over to the bleachers. i saw a couple of buford players in the cage warming up and waiting to pitch/bat.

buford was winning against sugar hill 4-3 and number 31 was up to catch. hmm, this number seems oddly familiar.

the body and hair too.

i just watched the rest of the game in a small corner in the bleachers, and when it finished 31 took off his catchers helmet and i realized it was jaden.

he was talking to some people over the fence and i just kept on staring at him. as he finished up the conversation, his eyes locked with mine for about 5 seconds.

this felt... strange.

i was processing what just happened and then a girl with braids came up to me and lowkey scared the hell out of me.

"hey, when did you get here? cause originally me and my family were sitting here." she asked with a genuine smile.

"oh, im so sorry! i didn't realize! i can move if you want too!" i suggested, then answered her question, "i got here about a quarter into the game."

"oh, no it's alright! we were basically gone for the whole game haha." she laughed. she seemed to nice and she was actually so pretty.

i laughed with her and then she asked, "you go to buford high school right?"

"yeah, sophomore."

"i'm a junior. is your friend playing here? or you know.. love interest?" she asked.

it struck me for a second and i shook my head. pfft, like jaden and i are dating.

"that's cool. my brother's playing right now. thank God buford won or else he would go on a rampage." she laughed and i laughed along.

"apparently buford always wins. what's your name? i'm aurelia!" i ask out of curiosity cause she seems sweet.

"zara. and omg aurelia is a pretty name!"

"aww thank you!"

"oh shit.. i gotta get home. it was nice meeting you zara!" i say, smiling to her.

she smiles back and waves goodbye.

i take my car keys out of my pocket and head to the parking lot, but i hear voice someone yelling. a very familiar voice.

"WHERE THE FUCK IS MY CHAIN?" i hear the voice yell from across the parking lot, which intersects the field sort of.

"THE 17 ONE FOR FUCKS SAKE JAYLA!" jaden walton screams. gosh, is he always the problem?

"I DON'T KNOW. GO LOOK FOR IT YOURSELF AND STOP YELLING AT US! WE'RE GOING HOME." she yells back and i see her go in the car with a younger boy.

why the fuck did i have to park near them? now i probably have to interact with jaden. he might yell in my face and ask him where his "17" chain is. why does he have a 17 chain if his number's 31?

the cage where the baseball players warmed up was also near my car, so i headed towards that way. shocker, i was right. jaden spotted me and rolled his eyes.

turns out our cars were next to each other. perfect!

i opened my car with my keys as i made it there but jaden stopped me. "aurelia, please please please help me look for my lucky chain. it means a lot to me and i lost it. and everyone's gone now and you're the only person that's left. please!" he said begging basically on his knees.

i thought for a moment and shook my head. i don't want to be like this but all ever jaden did to me was fuck me up. my friendships, my reputation, ect. he's also just a bad person in general (to me).

"please!" he say grabbing my shoulders. he looked into my eyes and i looked into his, and we just remained like that for a straight minute.

"fine. but this will be the last time i ever help you. you treat me so bad-" i started rambling but he cut me off saying, "great!"

i rolled my eyes and started looking for his chain. "what color is it?" i ask him looking in one of the fields' corners.

"silver." he responds a couple feet away.

i check the cage and examine real closely. i bend over and crawl into the little corner where grass, the sidewalk and dirt is engulfing. i see a small silver chain under the dirt, and i dig it up, revealing to to be a silver 17 chain.

he better repay me.

i turn around and he's behind me looking more. then he turns around and looks at my hands while im holding his chain.

"i fou-" i start to say but he snatches it away from my hands, and then then pulls me close to him by my hips.

"thank you." he whispers my ear.

i nod slowly as he pulls away, his hands still on my hips.

"couldn't have done it without you." he says, smiling with his dimples.

he inspects his chain and scrubs the dirt off, and as he leaves the cage he turns around and swears seriously, "don't tell anyone that we were alone."

i just shake my shoulders and follow him to where our cars are parked.

i open my car door and feel hands on my waist. jaden turns my body around and asks, "is there a reason you came to my game?"

"no, i was bored, jaden. humble yourself." i say, and i pushed his hands off cause im not stupid.

he smirks and says, "sure. then come to my next one."

"no thanks, you're not playing me." i say and open the car doors.

i see him frown as he gets in his car.
