The case begins I'm one step ahead.

Hello guys, from here on I think things will progress a little quicker than before or many of my fanfics, because these kind of sucked in fanfics are pretty new to me ^_^; Just giving you guys a heads up, now enjoy the story!

Criminals has finally begin dying.

I suppose that sounds very Kira-like and cold blooded? Errrr...Oh well. The Kira websites has began to pop up everywhere on the internet, and the news began to report 'the mysterious deaths of criminals' a few days ago. This means that Light has started to punish criminals.

Oh geez, I could have stopped him on the first move and no one would have needed to die. Now it's way more complicated. I push myself back on my chair and close my eyes. I'm totally ignoring what happened two days ago. Usually, when the protagonist gets sucked into another world, the first thing they would try to do is get back to their world, right? But really, what's in the world I left behind that's important enough for me to go back? My expression hardened into one that barely anyone has ever seen. I don't need that life.

Now I need to do some hacking. Ignoring my thoughts and a clench of pain in my heart for leaving Lily, I started working on hacking into the police database.

This is more work than I thought. I did computer, programming and coding outside of school and computer tech in school ever since I started high school and I always invested my own time into computers and did everything I could to learn what hackers and programmers did, but it seems that my skills aren't that polished enough. I already spent five hours in front of the screen, and I would probably need to spend another ten in order to get half way there. Still making progress. I grin under a light sheen of sweat covering my forehead from evading detectors, humans, installing bugs, and covering up tracks.

I hummed while working. What should I do afterwards? Should I befriend Light? Should I try to go and meet L? By now Light and Ryuk should have already met, and L should be challenging Kira soon-

"Sora! Sora come down stairs quick!" Argh. Great timing. Just when I'm nearly done with this part of the hacking.

"Mum, wait a moment would you?" I yell back, hands moving across the key board rapidly.

"I thought you liked keeping track on the now called Kira investigation? Well the famous L is on TV now! He's challenging Kira!" My fingers froze mid movement and I had to force them back into action before anyone could detect my presence. Just when I thought it should be happening. The first showdown.

In a few quick clicks and taps, I completed the first part of the hacking process and shut down my computer after disconnecting it to the internet to provide more safety. "I'm coming I'm coming!" I yell and dash down stairs, vaulting over the low railing and landing on the carpeted floor with a loud thump.

L, or actually the inmate, Lind L. Tailor is on TV, at the last part of his speech of Kira is evil.

"It's L! L vs Kira!' Mum gushes. "What do you think will happen?"

"I think L is stupid." I mutter darkly under my breath. Thank god this isn't the real L, and thank god Light was idiotic enough to kill Tailor.

"...Is evil!" Tailor finished, and I counted five seconds for Light to write his name, then started counting down from forty.

Without doubt, the inmate on TV collapsed as soon as I hit zero. As I heard a sharp intake of breathe from beside me, I remembered that this wasn't supposed to be expected and feigned as much surprise as I could. "...L...just died?!" I shout at the top of my lungs before a synthetic voice rang out from the TV, and I smirk inconspicuously.

"Unbelievable." L began. The speech I remember so well. "I did this on the off chance that you would kill "me"." I breathed the words in sync with the detective on television. "So, Kira, you can kill people even without being near by." This round, it's L's win.

I sink into the couch in front of the TV, and into my own thoughts while L continues. The first showdown is about to end. Though really, the battle has just begun. And from this point on, if I play my cards well, I'll be crucial to what happens in the plot. But what do I do next? I'm already hacking into the police database, which would be priceless as the case progresses and I can use whatever extra information they have. Even if I do know the plot, I still don't know all the details of what's happening. Obviously, you can never see everything when you're just watching a world through anime and manga.

"Come on! Kill me! What's wrong? Can't do it?" L's taunts jolted me right back to reality. I glanced to the side, and saw mum looking at the TV attentively. What's she gonna say if I tell her I'm going to join this war?

She's so different from herself in the other world. But I like her this way better. I want to stay with her, in the warm atmosphere she has created called home, forever.

But can I? I look back to the television screen. I should turn this story around, somehow. I need to turn this story around. I think, the moment I decided, meant that I'll have to abandon this parent I finally got back.

But, that should not- is not more important than what I'm going to do.

"Seems like you can't kill me after all. So there are people you can't kill, thanks for the hint." As I steeled my heart, L continued on the screen. "Let me tell you something in return.

"I said that this was a world wide live broadcast. But it's really only being shown in the Kanto area of Japan. I was planning on doing this at other prefectures, but now that's unnecessary... I know now that you're in the Kanto area."

I stopped paying attention to the television after feigning surprise again at L's genius mind. The first thing I need to is to hack the police database. Then I need to choose to either befriend Light, or to see L.

Since my school grades aren't terrible, if the case isn't solved when the time comes, I'll apply for Todou University with Light to stay by him. But should I talk to him much now? Or should I focus on informing L?

"Kira, I'm extremely interested in your killing method. I'll figure it out when I catch you!" My eyes drifted back to the tv. "Kira... I will hunt you down and destroy you!

I am... Justice! See you, Kira."

Yes, see you indeed... Light.

I can't express how sorry I am. I really can't. So I won't, and I'll just try and present you guys with another chapter ASAP. Also... GUESS WHAT I GOT A RYUK FIGURINE!!!(the picture accompanying this chapter is of the figurine I bought) I guess one benefit of going overseas is that the anime related toys and things here is way cheaper and there is way more stores. Btw, I'm not in Japan, just sayin'. Anyways, hope you guys enjoyed, and see you when the next chapter comes!
