Every morning Ethan would find himself at the exact same cafe getting a ham and cheese croissant, along with coffee to keep him going. It wasn't the most efficient plan considering that there were many closer cafes to his campus, including a couple on the campus but that was besides the point.
There was one thing that any other cafe in the world didn't have, that the one he was at right now did. That was the girl of his dreams. He had learnt her name a week after the first time he visited. Y/n, and that's the exact same name he couldn't get out of his mind. No matter what he did or how hard he tried not to, he would always find himself thinking about her.
Unfortunately for Ethan, he sucked at talking to girls, always had and always will. If any girl he found attractive ever approached him, he'd completely freeze, unable to form proper sentences and even words. It was hopeless, Chad always tried to help him but he just couldn't do it.
That's why there had been no progress between him and this Y/n girl. The furthest he'd ever gotten was asking how her day was, usually receiving a 'it could be worse' or 'better than the last, yours?'
If he ever tried to say anything else it would come out as gibberish, bringing a smile to her beautiful face. Normally making a girl like her smile would be a great achievement for him, but not if it meant by completely embarrassing himself. But that seemed to be the only way it happened.
Although, for some reason Ethan had a lot of unusual confidence today as he stood behind an old lady in the line. He couldn't hide the smile on his face admiring Y/n kindly taking the ladies order. She was so perfect in every way, there was no way he would ever have a chance.
"Have a good day!" Y/n said before the customer walked off with her coffee, then when she saw the same curly haired boy, her smile seemed to grow wider. "The usual?"
"Uh, yes please." It's as if all his confidence suddenly vanished the second she spoke. If only Chad was here right now to help him, except maybe not because there's no doubt she would fall for him and his stupid muscles.
"I've been meaning to ask, what are you doing here every morning? It's pretty far from Blackmore University."
"How'd you know wha-"
"You're jersey." She cut him off, pointing down to the thing he was wearing that had the logo in the top right corner. His cheeks immediately washed over red, realising that he had once again embarrassed himself in front of her. Unlike him, she found it very amusing. "So why do you always come here?"
"Um, for the croissants and coffee." Sadly his answer wasn't good enough for Y/n, neither was it very believable. "They're both great. Taste. They both taste great."
"There's nothing special about them, it's just ham and cheese toasted inside a croissant while the coffee tastes the same as nearly every other cafe." Her arguments to his explanations came as quite the surprise. Normally he'd expect someone to talk highly about working at a cute place like this, guess he was mistaken. "Well at least that's what my boyfriends told me."
His smile instantly disappeared at the mention of her boyfriend but before she could notice he replaced it with a fake one. What was he thinking in the first place? Of course a beautiful and amazing girl like her would already have a boyfriend. It was just his luck with girls.
Ethan was too busy lost in thought that he hadn't realised his order was ready. At least he was the only customer in line otherwise he would probably have been yelled at, further more embarrassing himself in front of Y/n.
"Thanks Y/n, see you tomorrow."
"I'm counting on it."
——
It had been a week since Y/n last saw Ethan, and she had surprisingly missed the awkward boy. Every morning she would hope to see his curls come around the corner but sadly that didn't happen. Maybe he just had a very busy week considering he was going to University. Hopefully he would make another appearance, sooner rather than later.
After a long day of working she decided to go out with some of her friends to a bar. She had quite a bit to drink but not enough to get her drunk. Her boyfriend would probably have gotten pissed if she was which made no sense because he loved drinking. It was an unhealthy obsession.
"I should get going guys before Jake gets mad." Y/n shouted, trying to compete with the noisy crowd around them. They then all hugged her goodbye before she navigated her way through everyone till she reached the exit.
Just as she was about to call a taxi, a car pulled up and a very angry looking Jake got out. This was the last thing she needed, why did he always have to be in a bad mood. It just made her more miserable when he was always trying to start an argument.
"Where have you been?"
"I told you, out with my friends." Y/n replied, trying to remain as calm as possible so things wouldn't escalate.
"Get in the car."
"No." The last thing she wanted was to get in the car with him. All he would do was yell at her the whole way. Plus if she took the taxi it would give them both time to hopefully cool down. Arguing was not what she wanted, a nice warm bath was.
"I said get into the fucking car." He spat but still she ignored him and continued to walk down the street. That's when he started following behind her, repeating her name while growing more impatient every time. "I swear to god Y/n."
"Go away, I don't want to talk to you right now."
"Listen to me!" He grabbed her harshly by the wrist, yanking her back before pinning her against the hard brick wall. His face was inches away from hers and if looks could kill, she'd be dead. Why was he so angry in the first place?
"Get off me Jack."
"Not until you listen."
"Get off me!" Right as she was about to push him off her a black figure came from around the corner, grabbing Jack with ease. Then before she knew it, the figure pulled something out from behind them, most most likely a blade since the next thing she knew, her boyfriend had fallen to the ground.
The street was dimly lit, only a few lamp posts were working on the opposite side of the road. Although there was no mistaking the pool of blood that she touched when crouching down beside Jack. Whoever had done this left with no hesitation, leaving her there alone.
"Jack, Jack!" She cried shaking his body in hopes he'd get up, but yet there was no response. He was gone within a matter of seconds, all that was left was his lifeless body. Even though Jake might've hurt her, that didn't mean he had to die. Y/n didn't know whether to be thankful for the the masked figure or not.
