It had been a year since the bombing on Himmel Street. Liesel was quiet, she would only talk when spoken to. Most of the time, it was a one word reply. Frau Herman insisted that if Liesel wouldn't verbally express her thoughts, she should write them.
"You don't need to share them if you don't want to," Frau Herman would say, "just let it out. All the dark thoughts, just write them out."
Late that night, Liesel sat at the desk in the Bügermeister's library. She pulled out empty sheets of paper she had been given earlier, and started writing.
A letter."Dear nobody,
You were never a nobody. You still aren't. You're still my best friend, even if you are gone," The letter started, "I miss you. I miss you following me around. I miss the "How about a kiss, Saumensch?", when you would stay next to me when I wanted no one around. I miss your lemon hair. I miss you.
What were you thinking in your last moments?
Did you feel it, the kiss, that day?" She was interrupted by Frau Herman."Time for bed, Liesel."
The next morning, when Liesel found her paper, there was a note at the bottom. In the messy handwriting of the fastest man alive.
"I felt it. I love you too, Book Thief."
