The morning after the bombing was a true nightmare. As Liesel Meminger was pulled out of her unstable basement, Rudy Steiner was being pulled from the rubble that ounce was his bedroom. Liesel didn't notice at first, she was frantically searching for Mama and Papa.

Her goodbye's were hard to watch. She told Mama that she loved her. Even though she couldn't hear. And Papa, nothing was said. It was to hard for the book thief to look at the accordionist.

After her goodbye's were said, she began looking for her Jesse Owens. She found him, being carried to a pile of rubble to rest on. She ran over just as Rudy Steiner's soul came to me.

She cried, harder than either of us had seen. I felt a powerful emotion, Rudy was heartbroken. He grabbed Liesel's collar in a attempt to get her attention.
"Liesel, I'm right here! Can't you see me? Can't you hear me? I love you, Liesel. Please hear me!" He cried as Liesel shook his body.

"You need to do something! Put me back!" Rudy demanded. I didn't obey.

"Please?!" He asked. I shook my head. As he was about to cry out again. Liesel kissed him. Soft and true on his lips. As she did, his soul started glowing and began to fade.

Now, I've never brought a person back to life. I never knew what the outcome would be, so I never attempted it. So with this boy's soul, his broken soul with a gold heart, I let it go. Rudy would be the second survivor on Himmel street.

As their teeth collided, Rudy groaned. Liesel pulled back. Rudy opened his eyes slightly and smiled.
"Miss me, Saumensch?" He asked. Liesel began crying ounce again and kissed him. He smiled, the kiss he had wanted for so long, was finally his.

Liesel woke up in the middle of the night, three years later. Her hair clung to her neck and forehead. She sat up and looked out the window. She had moved in with the Hermanns after Rudy recovered from his injuries. He had badly injured his leg and could no longer run races.

Liesel stepped out of bed and walked across the hall, to the lemon haired boy's room.

"Rudy? Are you awake?" She whispered. The boy turned to his side and faced the door.

"Another nightmare?" Liesel nodded. Rudy moved so Liesel could fit in the bed.

"Sorry if I'm giving you trouble."

"Don't worry about it, Saumensch, I'm happy to help." He kissed her forehead.

"Good night, Rudy."

"Good night, Liesel."
