chapter eighteen
the badass seed

"Start with the line about the stolen medal." Spencer told Emily as she pressed the underside of her jaw. "Why isn't she wearing any shoes?" Hanna asked, referring to someone who had walked past with no shoes on. "Probably so she can look shorter, atleast short enough to play an eight-year old." Adalind answered. "What's my line?" Spencer asked Emily, who was looking through the script. "I don't see anything about a medal." she responded.

Spencer leaned in to help Emily. "Huh, that's why the eight-year old killed her classmate for, the Penmanship Medal, that's why they called her the Bad Seed." Spencer explained. "A Penmanship Medal, really?" Hanna asked. "Haven't you read the play Han?" Adalind asked as Spencer looked at Aria, who lifted her head and noticed Spencer's stare. "Don't look at me. Hanna's the one trying out, I'm just here to make her look taller." Aria said, making Adalind laugh.

"Why do I have to read the whole play? I don't wanna be the Bad Seed's mother, I wanna be the other mother, the one who's drunk all the time." Hanna said. "No comment." Spencer remarked. "Are you still ragging on me for bringing a flask to a dance?" Hanna asked. "I don't need another parent, Spence, one's plenty." she added. "Well, has the 'one' figured out that Caleb's in her basement?" Aria asked. "No, but 'A' has." Hanna responded, making them look at her shocked. "What are you gonna do?" Emily asked.

"I'm gonna tell my mom before 'A' gets to her. I'm just gonna ask her if Caleb can stay in the guest room." Hanna explained but before any of them could respond, Mona walked up to them. "Hey, there, Hanna and her clan-na." She greeted them. "Hey, Mona, how'd it go in there?" Hanna asked her. "Honestly, I nailed it. It was epic." Mona responded. "I think Mr. Fitz cried." she added, making Adalind hide her face in her shoulder to hide her laugh.

"Good for you, Mona, I guess the rest of us should go home." Spencer spoke sarcastically. "No. There are no small parts, only parts that don't make it into the yearbook. Goodluck." Mona said with a smile before he walked off and as soon as she was gone, Adalind let out a laugh, resting her head on the floor before calming herself down and when she lifted her head, she, and Spencer, noticed Aria looking at Mr. Fitz. "Why don't you audition?" Spencer asked her. "You do kind of have an in with the director." Adalind joked. "Stop." Aria told them. "Is he wearing the tie you gave him?" Hanna asked, a teasing tone to her words.

"Stop." Aria whispered to them. "It would be so awesome to hangout with you two after school...see you as a couple." Spencer whispered to her. "News flash, just because we're on this side of the building doesn't mean that we can suddenly light candles and slow dance." Aria remarked. "That's the opening night party," Spencer said. "Hello, Aria," she said in a different voice, before leaning into Aria. "Hello, Ezra." she said in another voice, making the others laugh. "Are you finished?" Aria asked as she pushed Spencer off of her.

"It's not like we'll always be able to go on a double date with you guys." Emily said. "Yeah, you won't even send us pictures." Hanna scoffed. "Pictures? Hanna, we meet at his apartment, it's not seaworld." Aria responded. "We're just saying, it'd be nice." Emily told her. "Believe me, I know." Aria uttered, making Adalind reach over and squeeze her hand. "Wish I could, but I can't." Aria added. "Um, where's your other scene?" Aria asked Hanna just as they heard a tapping noise, making them turn to see Jenna.
