"See you, Felix!" Nahuel greeted his friend.
"I'll come tomorrow guys!" assured the redhead waving his hand, while all his friends repeated the gesture.
Felix, now 8 years old, was walking animatedly back to his house. He couldn't wait to arrive to have his snack and then rest a little. That afternoon he had been quite tired.
"Son?" his mother asked from the living room when she heard the door open.
The boy said nothing and simply went to where his mother was.
Aldana approached him with a smile. She left a kiss on his forehead and lightly combed his sweaty hair. "Looks like someone was playing a lot today... But, you came back early, did something happen?" she questioned and Felix shook his head in response.
"Well... Tell me, what did you do today?" she began to say to get a chat out of Felix while they had a snack. "Did you see that a new family arrived in the neighborhood?" the woman smiled excitedly. "I told them that in the afternoons the children come together to play, so they gave their children permission. They are your age, did you get to meet them?" she asked, hoping that her son would give her a positive answer.
But she was disappointed when the boy said: “No. I didn't realize there were new neighbors. Besides, I couldn't have gone with them, I was with my friends" and with a smile he proceeded to take his cup to finish what was left of his chocolate milk.
As I mentioned, Félix was already 8 years old, which is why his mother found it a bit strange that the boy kept talking about his circus friends.
"You should try to play with the other kids from time to time. I don't think…” The woman sighed. "It will annoy your friends". She completed awkwardly.
She knew that her son was a little too old to have imaginary friends but she did not want to be harsh with him, as she thought that he had become too attached to them, since he could not fit in with the other children.
"Yeah, I could try". Felix said with a noticeable weariness in his voice. Sometimes his mother's insistence on this matter annoyed him. "But I really couldn't today. I was with Nahuel and Lautaro. First we saw Latifa dancing. She was very happy today... Since she doesn't have musicians, every time she wants to dance she sings, even though she says she doesn't do it well" he laughed. "It looked funny, although Bahir didn't dance with her this time. He was with Sasha, Milo and Atticus... Anyway, the dance looked fun, so we joined her, and then everyone else came! They began to applaud following the rythm" the boy stopped talking for a moment as he yawned. "That's why I came back early, I got very tired, although I think I didn't dance well at all" and laughed again. "But Latifa promised that she would teach me".
His mother gave an awkward smile. "I'm glad you had a good time".
After Claudio got home, Felix went to take a bath, thinking of sleeping for a while once he was done.
Meanwhile, his parents stayed in the living room.
"He's going to turn 9, he don't have any friends, and insists on that thing of the circus... Today he told me that he came back early because he was dancing with the circus dancer and he got very tired... I don't know what! do!" the woman snorted.
"Hey... He's still a child, I don't think it's something serious. He just likes to be alone. It is a stage, it will pass. Also, remember that it's still vacation. I mean, when he has to go back to school, he'll forget about this whole thing. It was like that the year before, wasn't it? We took him and brought him from home to school. The wasteland is in the opposite direction. Felix came home tired so he hardly ever went out to play, and he didn't talk much about his friends" the man replied calmly.
Aldana just rolled her eyes and preferred to remain silent. Once again she got angry with her husband because she thought that this whole matter did not matter to him.
