"Pleasure of love lasts, but a moment.
Pain of love lasts a lifetime."

One week later as the chances of life falling back to its place seemed bleak, the elder daughter of Amrit family made up her mind to take the reins in her hand. It was now on her shoulders to save her sister's sinking marriage. So Oorja Amrit pushed open the agar door without knocking and regarded Naisha with a stern look. She took sure steps and came to a stop right in front of her. "To tu sach nahi bataegi?" (So you won't tell the truth?) She asked as she roved her gaze over the other woman's face. She could tell her pregnant sister was dying inside, a little, day by day. And Oorja was feeling like shit for being unable to help her out of whatever damned debacle she was stuck into.
Naisha closed the book she was reading and put it aside. "Maine sach hi bola hai par apko mujh pe bharosa nahi hai to main kya karu?" (I did tell you the truth but I can't help it if you don't trust me.) The scorn on her face belied the pain pooling in her eyes.
Oorja sat down on the floor beside the stool Naisha had occupied. "You honestly think I'll believe your lies?" She took hold of the latter's swollen ankles and started massaging them to alleviate the soreness.
"Maa believes me."
The naked disbelief in the uttered words wasn't hidden from Oorja. She cursed her mother for ignoring the very much there hints and trusting all the lies Naisha was spewing. She was appalled with herself for expecting some sympathy and assistance from their matriarch.
The elder woman was unable to foster understanding, love and care when it came to her daughters. And Oorja, herself was the breathing proof of how badly Sujata Amrit had failed her daughter. So it was nothing short of blasphemous for having reckoned their mum to support her younger daughter in times of need.
"But Baba doesn't!" Oorja exclaimed.
She couldn't express in words how relieved she felt on witnessing their father's unrivalled support in this period of crisis. In the start a bitter envy had pervaded her mind as she'd seen him take a stand for Naisha while he'd not done the same for her all those years ago. She didn't forgive him as of yet for how he'd abandoned her when she'd wanted him the most, although now her disdain had plunged by a notch since he was mending his ways. Even tough he had let her down then, it was refreshing to experience his changed perspective now.
"He is biased. He is under the impression that his daughter is too good for this cruel world."
"So you're completely fine with him breaking Prem's bones?"
Naisha failed to spot the undercurrents of interrogation as all her mind could conjure up were images of her bloodied and bruised husband. "What?"
"He is flying out the day after tomorrow to meet Prem."
