"The bravest thing i ever did was continuing my life when i wanted to die."

~Juliette Lewis.

Oorja paced up and down the porch, its perimeter lined by various small shrubs and show plants. The velvety blossoms gliding along the breeze didn't bring a smile to her lips like they usually did. Nor did the purple enchantment of the dusk soothe her frayed nerves.

She very expertly had tried to tamp down her annoyance after the first call she'd received nearly an hour ago. For once she'd actually considered giving the other person the benefit of doubt. But the call from fifteen minutes ago had washed away all her sentimentality, effectively pushing her to the brink of insanity.

For once she had placed her faith in the selfless love which could sprout only from a mother's heart. However the faith had shattered to infinitesimal pieces in a matter of few seconds. And the reality was laughing right in Oorja Amrit's face, showing her the mirror which she had ignored consciously for Naisha's sake.

As rationality swam across the tides of shame and disgust, Oorja laughed a humorless laugh. Her own voice sounded strange to her. But whom could she blame except for herself. Her mother had reached another low in the glorious history of lows but that was expected.

Although what was unexpected was Oorja's reaction to it. She should've seen this coming long back. In fact she should have been prepared for worse. Talking from experience, she shouldn't have let her guards down but she was so blindsided by her broken heart that she'd boldly forgotten how her mother functioned. And now was regretting it with every cell in her body.

The regret and ignorance burned her insides more than her mother's rotten tact. The damage control wasn't a big deal but the knowledge that Oorja had failed to smell trouble arising from her own house was what chipping away her sanity.

So she'd bolted out of her room in search of the cause for her fucked mood but then realized the woman in question was not home yet.

She took few deep breaths to kick off her rage and it helped to certain extent. But every inch of her fury hurtled back as soon as the main gate opened and from there walked in Mrs. Sujata Amrit.

Oorja narrowed her eyes at her mother's back as she passed her without looking her way and heeded inside. Sujata had just deposited the grocery bags on the dining table and was filling a glass of water when she spotted her elder born approaching like a wounded lioness.

"What were you thinking or fuck, were you not thinking at all?"

The elder woman side eyed the younger for using crass language but said nothing in recrimination. She took her own sweet time to swallow every drop of the water and once done took a comfortable seat. "I've long given up on trying to tame your insolence," she said, all the while her attention on retrieving the packets from the plastic bags.
