The Kiss- Kaz POV

Kaz gently placed Inej onto the table. Her blood had soaked through his shirt and was now beginning to stain his skin, but he didn't care. He watched her chest for a few seconds. She was breathing, yes , but it was horribly uneven. Nina had cleared everyone else out of the room and was now on the hunt for anything that could help her fix Inej, leaving the bleeding girl alone with the bastard of the Barrel. He turned to leave when Inej opened her eyes just enough to see him.

"Stay" she whispered "please."

So he stayed. He watched her for a minute or so, studying every part of her beautiful face. Her clear skin, her pale lips, but the thing he missed most were her usually rosy cheeks. He stayed until he was sure she was asleep. He looked around, no one was in the room. He lent down and placed a soft kiss on her cheek.

Kaz lifted his head and a feeling of desire washed over him. He wanted to kiss her, more than he'd ever wanted anything... so he did. He lent down until his lips met hers. It was the best feeling he had ever experienced, but, as much as he wanted it to, it couldn't last forever. But then it hit him, a spike of nausea. Panic washed over him next. He thought about leaving but he opened his eyes and looked at the pretty girl bleeding out on the table. He wouldn't let this beat him, he was stronger than this. Kaz pushed the horrible feeling to the deepest darkest place in him. He went to pull away but he felt a hand being placed on the side of his head. He had woken her, but she wasn't pulling away. Just when he thought he had beaten the nausea, when he thought he had beaten his nightmares, she moved her hand down to his cheek. That did it. He couldn't handle the overwhelming memories that rushed through his head. He pulled away, watching as her hand fell back into the table.

Inej didn't open her eyes or talk, she laid motionless on the table, to tired to move. With one last looks by his Wraith, Kaz turned and walked out of the small room. When he closed the door he caught sight of Nina leaning on the wall to his left.

"Did you enjoy that Brekker?" She asked smugly

He really had. "You breath a word of this and I'll throw you and your toffee overboard" he hissed.

Nina simply smiled and walked into the room, closing the door behind her. He sighed, the feeling of longing burning in his chest to much for him to handle. His heart wanted to go back, if not to kiss her than to be with her at the very least. But his head was telling him to move on and focus on what really mattered, the Ice Court job, the thirty million Kruge and the feeling of beating Pekka to Bo Yul-Bayur. So, holding on to the tiny bit of pride he had left, he limped up the stairs to the deck and the smell of salty water.
