*sorry I haven't written in a while, I've kinda forgotten about this book thing if I'm being honest but I've got 2 stories in the making. Enjoy this spontaneous, unplanned story :D*
Kaz watched Flix. She stood between her father and him, forced to choose. After claiming he was wrong, that he never should have given her up and left her on the streets, Malcom Baker had shown up in the middle of the street, demanding his daughter came home. "I was wrong" he pleaded, "I never should have left you." "I WAS A BABY!" Flix screamed, tears streaming down her face "I WAS A BABY AND YOU LEFT ME ON THE FREAKING STREETS TO DIE." Kaz stood silent, watching the girl 100 paces ahead of him. She was closer to Malcom than him, her body inching closer without her knowledge. "I'm sorry darling, I can never be forgiven, just come home." Kaz could see his crew leaning out the window of his office, watching silently. Malcom stepped closer to the young Dreg. "At least Kaz cares about me." Malcom laughed, "he's almost got you killed multiple times. Felicity, come home." Flix looked back at Kaz and he schooled his expression into his hard, uncaring one. Her tears ran down her face like rivers and her eyes were red and raw. "Nothing from you?" She cried "no attempts to make me stay?" Kaz didn't move, his expression unchanging. "He doesn't even care enough to make you stay after...13 years, was it?" Flix nodded. "Felicity" Kaz spoke up, "if you leave with him, you're contract will end." Flix coughed, "so I have to choose?" He nodded. This set off Malcom, "choose me sweetheart, come home with me, I'll take care of you and love you. You have to pick me." Flix didn't move, just looked back and forth between her biological father and her found father. Flix took a step backwards towards Kaz and he heard Nina suck in a breath from the room above him. A small voice in his head told him that Inej had moved from the window to the roof, her mask drawn. "Felicity" Malcom said, his tone etched with sternness "don't be rash." Flix took another small step towards Kaz. "Felicity. Come here. Now." Flix sighed and began to walk towards her father, and Kaz's Crows leaning out the window wilted slightly. "That's a good girl. Let's get you home and-" but Malcom didn't finish as he was cut off by cheering and screams from the Dregs and Crows. Flix had only taken a few steps before spinning on her heel and darting towards Kaz. The small part of him that had shrivelled up when he though she was leaving sprung up and grew all the way to his monster of a heart. When she reached him, she skidded to a halt, thinking better of hugging her boss. She turned to face her father, face hard as rock. "You may want me now, father" she spat the last word at him like it had the most awful taste. "But the Dregs want me, value me, care for me. Kaz and his crew have saved me from this cruel world and I didn't come this far just to give in now." More shouts of support and clapping came from her small speech and Kaz put his hand on her shoulder. "You can leave now, Malcom." Malcom spluttered but didn't get very far before he was chased away by Rotty and Jesper. "And they're your crew, too" Kaz whispered as he watched Inej and Nina squish Flix in a hug "I know" she whispered back when Nina had turned and Flix's face was next to his, "I've always known."
