You stared at him. Much like many times before.

He walked around with such confidence, your eyes following him around the house.

Not even Ellie could stop him in his path.

He needed to check the drains, then the upstairs bathroom and finally check the fences as he usually did.

"You are staring again." Ellie said as your eyes moved to her.

"Do you think... do you think he would like me?"

"Huh?"

"Like... on a date? Would he take me?"

She tilted her head.

"You two are married... what do you mean?"

"I mean-I mean he is so sexy."

"Y/N, he's your husband, if you want him to take you on a date... ask."

"I don't want to ask, Ellie. He has to want to take me on a date... he has to know without me saying."

Ellie blinked once, twice.

"JOEL! Y/N wants you to take her on a date!" she yelled as the man came out of the kitchen and stopped as Ellie talked.

"Date? Sure."

"No no no. You have to ask her out on a date because you have to know that she wants to go on one." Joel blinked once, twice.

"Y/N, do you want to go on a date?"

"No."

"No?"

"No. You didn't want to ask me and you wouldn't have if Ellie didn't say so. So, I'm not going."

Now both of them blinked at you before Ellie spoke up again.

"Definitely pregnancy hormones." she said pointing at your bulging stomach. The baby was the very reason why you couldn't even stand up, bound to the couch as the others worked.

As Ellie said that, you turned as a tear escaped your eye.

"I know that the baby and I are useless."

"Love, love, no, no please." Joel dropped the tool he was holding and rushed over to you, grabbing your hands as Ellie joined him.

"That is not what I meant. It's just, what you said was rather weird."

"You think I'm weird?" you turned to her, more tears falling as Joel pushed Ellie away.

"Love, she only meant that... she wasn't able to say what you were meaning to say. We can go on a date. Let's take a bath. I found some soap last time so we could have a bubble bath."

"Bubble bath date?"

"Yes, you, me and the baby." you finally calmed down a little as you nodded. Ellie came back, a small piece of bread in her hands, offering it to you and you took it.

You happily ate it and thanked her.

"A bath sounds nice. But- not if you don't want to."

"I do want to. I'll smell terrible once I'm finished outside so it will do me good, you could wash my back." you nodded.

"You do look very sexy while working. My strong handsome husband." he smiled, nodding as his hand squeezed yours.

"Thank you, Y/N. I'll try and continue to be sexy for you while sweating my ass off out in the sun."

"I'll make you a cold drink." Joel nodded again. Happy that you calmed down, your hormones lately have been a bit crazy.

"Thank you." he kissed you on the lips and helped you stand up before going out to the backyard. He started with the safety fences before moving to the plants, watering and checking them all.

You happily made the drink you promised him when Ellie entered the kitchen, offering you a smile as she searched for something to eat.

"Do we have any tomatoes?"

"We should." you said as you looked over her shoulder.

"You ate them again didn't you?" she asked with a smile and small mischief in her tone, but you took it way too literally. Your eyes watered once again just as Joel entered he let out a groan seeing you on the verge of crying... again.

He didn't mean to groan so loudly.

"I'm sorry for eating the tomatoes! I'm sorry for being emotional and a wreck, I'm sorry for being pregnant and useless! And you Mr Miller, I'm not going to bathe with you if you think I'm so annoying! You can wash your own back or get another wife to do it for you." you said as you, as fast as you could, walked upstairs.

"You really need to stop pushing her buttons." Joel said to Ellie.

"I didn't do anything!"

"Even breathing can annoy her. What was it this time? The apples?"

"Tomatoes."

"Fucking tomatoes... okay... I'll talk to her, you go and do whatever she will forget by tomorrow, lay low until then." Ellie nodded.

Joel found you in the baby's room, looking out the window as you quietly sobbed.

"Love, I-"

"I think we are crazy Joel. Bringing a baby into a word like this." your eyes landed on the streets and the other people.

"We talked about this when you told me the news. I'm happy that we are having a baby, and while, yes this world is fucked, our child will be loved."

"I'm not even a good mom for Ellie, how can I be good for this one?" your eyes still not looking at him as he walked over to you.

"You are amazing with Ellie. I have no doubts you will do the same for the little one."

"I ate her tomatoes."

"Fuck the tomatoes, that doesn't mean you are a bad... parent. You have cravings because of the baby, she knows that, she didn't mean it like that. She knows you need it more."

You let out a long sigh as Joel hugged you.

"Thank you."

"Will you take a bath with me?" he asked as he buried his face into your neck, his beard scratching and tickling your neck. You let out a small laugh.

"Okay, but you have to give me a backrub."

"Did the baby cause you trouble today?" he asked moving his hand over your skin, watching your skin as he rubbed circles on it.

"They moved a little but nothing too much."

"Probably you didn't notice because you were drooling over me all day."

"I won't deny that. But at the same time, I have been doing that since the day we met so, I think they are just not that active today." Joel nodded, one last kiss to your cheeks and he was off to go and run the water.

He has never felt this happy in a very long time. He was finally able to afford a house to keep you and Ellie safe, provided for you all and now, the baby.

Joel Miller felt at home.
