*knock knock knock* William opened the door to Albert's study.
"Haaaappyyy Biiirthdaaaay toooo youuuu...", Ella began singing the birthday song while holding a cake. William and Louis walked right behind her, clapping and singing along to the birthday song.
Behind the desk, Albert looked up at them while holding some kind of homemade scrapbook. The sight of them celebrating his birthday made him smile warmly.
"...haaappyyy birthdaaaay tooo youuuuuuuuuu!!!"
"Make a wish, nii-san!", Louis said. And Albert blew out the candles.
"Happy Birthday, Arubato-niisan!"
"Happy Birthday, love!"
Albert chuckled and said, "I am truly grateful for all of your efforts on my special day!"
"Of course, nii-san! You deserve all the best!", Louis meant every word.
"Um, Albert...is that the scrapbook I made???", Ella pointed at the makeshift book Albert was holding.
"Indeed it is, my love.", Albert sincerely replied and his face is gleaming in pure happiness. "It is beautifully crafted! Your artistic skills as well as the time and effort you poured out just to record our memories makes it the best birthday present I ever received in my entire life!", Albert said while flipping through the pages.
"W...I...I was planning to...I'm glad you like it but...h-how did you get that?", Ella was elated that Albert loves it but it still bothered her how he managed to get his hands on it earlier.
"A little birdie told me.", Albert wasn't exactly looking at Ella the moment he said this. And Ella didn't need to ask any further for she already had an idea. She made a bombastic side eye to William, who was languishing at the side for being thrown under the bus.
"Arubato-niisan desperately wanted to know what you were doing after staying up all night in the past few days. And he couldn't wait to get his hands on his gift the moment he knew."
"Awwww Wiiiill!", Ella exasperated. "You sneaks!"
"Ehehe sumimasen...", William nervously laughed it off whereas Albert and Louis chuckled in the background.
*knock knock knock* The door opened, revealing Fred at the doorway.
"Arubato-sama...", Fred was about to say something until Moran came along with heavy grunts.
"Special delivery to that bastard's birthday! Seems like you have a lot of fans.", Moran said as he unloaded 2 bulky sacks of letters and packages.
"Oh, I see. Thank you very much, Fred!"
"Oi! No thanks for me?!", irked Moran, "After carrying all those heavy weights???!!!"
"Well...you didn't gently lay them down though. What if there was a hidden bomb among those packages?", Albert teased.
"Gaaaahhhhd!!! This is gonna be a loooong day...", Moran muttered as he went away.
"Arubato-niisan...", William interjected, "...what would you like to do today? We made 2 kinds of plans for your birthday. Would you like to spend the day in the city of London or somewhere else, nii-san?" William asked.
"Hmm...I'm mostly away from home and our missions. It would be nice to spend the whole day with my family at home."
"As you wish, Albert-niisan. We'll meet you downstairs for breakfast.", and with that William and Louis left the room. Meanwhile, Ella remained because she got curious about what those heavy gunnies contained.
Albert got up from his seat and walked up to her. "Don't worry, love, yours is the best.", Albert said and kissed her on the cheek.
"I'm glad you love it! Do you receive these every year?", Ella gestured to the 2 bags on the floor.
"Yes. They're mostly from other nobles and connections. Some of them are important and some of them are not. You can help me sort them out later if you'd like.", Albert offered.
"Alright. Shall we go, birthday boy? You wouldn't want to start your day with a cold pancake.", Ella extended her arm to him.
"Hai.", and Albert took it as the both of them went on their way downstairs.
