CHAPTER SEVEN
"i had econ! ask liesel! i was texting
and calling the whole time"

AFTER NEARLY DYING, LIESEL LOOKED DOWN AT HER PHONE, finding thirty two unread messages and thirteen missed calls from Ethan, all of them to ask if she was okay. She answered every single text while getting stitched up by some of the emts that arrived after their neighbor called the cops. The girl looked up from her phone to see Ethan ducking under the yellow police tape, clearly looking for his girlfriend.

"Liesel." The Conner girl stood up from her seat on the ambulance but before she could reach him, Chad was walking towards him. The taller boy grabbed ahold of the boys jacket, slamming his back into one of the police SUVs.

"Chad, what the fuck?" Liesel watched as Chad questioned her boyfriend, knowing she wouldn't be able to pull Chad off of him or get in the middle of it.

"When?" Ethan looked at Chad and the Liesel, telling the Meeks boy where he was. "I had econ. Ask Liesel! I was texting and calling the whole time!" The taller boy shoved him back into the car once again, telling him it was bullshit.

"You disappear and my sister almost gets killed. Your girlfriend too, Ethan. She almost fucking died last night and you weren't even there." Ethan scoffed, wondering how he was at fault when it was his father that had attacked the girls last night, something he didn't find out until five minutes before he got to the scene.

"Dude, I was in a study hall with a hundred other people you can ask any of them."

"Chad Meeks Martin, don't you dare make it sound like this is Ethan's fault because he had a fucking class last night. I was the one that told him not to come to the apartment. You don't need to act like a fucking dick about it." Chad looked at the boy one last time, realizing that fighting with him wasn't going to do anything but cause more problems.

"Liesel?" The girl sighed, walking over to her boyfriend, throwing her arms around his neck. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Ethan's hands ran up and down the Conner girl's back, trying to comfort her as she spoke to him, the rest of the group, talking among themselves.

"Little stab to the thigh but I'm okay." Ethan felt himself freeze when his girlfriend told him she had been stabbed. "Hey, you okay, E?" The boy looked down at his girlfriend, nodding his head as he brought his hand up to push a piece of hair out of her face.

"Yeah, just glad you're okay."

"Yeah, I told you I would be okay, didn't I? Most of us made it. We tried to save Anika and Quinn but it didn't work out for either of them. It's not fair, E. Neither of them were apart of the killings last year, what if you're next?" Ethan shook his head, telling her that she had nothing to worry about. The boy pulled away from his girlfriend, turning to Mindy.

"Mindy, I'm so sorry."

"Step the fuck back." The Landry boy took a few steps back as Liesel looked between her boyfriend and her friend, confused as to why they weren't believing her or him. "You're at the top of my list."

"I had econ. Ask the professor if you don't believe me. Check my location from last night. Do what you want but just know that it wasn't me." Liesel looked at her friends and scoffed as she turned back to Ethan, apologizing for the way they were acting. "Don't worry about it. It's fine. I get it. I'm new, they have every right to think I did something but you know I didn't do it, and that's all that matters." Liesel nodded her head with a grin as she pulled her boyfriend into another hug, feeling safe in the warmth of his arms. "I've got you."

..........

"So I'm just getting left out of shit now, or what, Quinn? All of a sudden you're dead? What the fuck?" Quinn scoffed from the other line as Ethan waited for a reply, not wanting to put up with her bullshit today.

"Dad and I think it would be better to keep you out of a few things. Try and get you off the top of the suspect list, you know?" Ethan sighed as he shook his head, not believing a single thing that came out of his sisters mouth.

"My girlfriend was never apart of the plan, she wasn't supposed to get hurt." Ethan heard his sister chuckle from the other line, making him become enraged, wondering why they would just forget their deal.

"She got in the way of our plan, Ethan. Need I remind you that she was just supposed to be a cover for you? You weren't supposed to fall in love with her." The Landry boy stood there for a moment, the phone to his ear as he brought his hand up to scratch his head, his finger running through his dark curls.

"Yeah, well, I did. And I'm glad I fell in love with her, because she's the best thing that's happened to me. The next time you fucking hurt her, Quinn, I swear to fucking god, I'll-" Before Ethan could finish, Quinn quickly cut him off, not letting him talk.

"You'll what, Ethan? Hurt me? Kill me? You wouldn't touch a hair on my head. You wanna know why? Because you've never had the balls to do anything. You sit there and you find the easy way out. Just like you're doing right now."

    "Fuck you, Quinn."

"Nuh uh, Ethan. Be nice or I'll fucking kill Liesel and I'll make you watch as she bleeds all over herself, screaming and asking for you to help her. Anyways, hope you had a great time in econ last night."
