A/N: I put a photo above on how I sort of imagine the smoothie place that will become a common setting in this book. If I find another or better photo I will update! Thanks for reading xx
Friday at last. Only two more weeks before summer was finally here, and I'd finally become a sophomore. After getting out of bed and getting ready, I ran down stairs, excited for the day to begin. Right after school is when I'm going to go searching for the mysterious tail. "Well you seem happy. What's the occasion?" My mom asked placing a plate of pancakes in front of me. She always placed two strawberries right on top.
"Oh no reason, it's just such a beautiful day! I can't wait for summer.""I bet you can't. This year has been pretty different, going from middle school to high school!"
"I know. I'll see you later mom, I might not be home until evening. I have...plans with some friends."
"Okay, I need to meet these friends soon, Brook."
"You will eventually" I smiled. The thought of having Lucas in my house seemed weird. What would be even more weird and awkward was him netting my mom. It could go wrong in so many ways.
"Oh I forgot to tell you, dad can take you to school this morning. Go upstairs and tell him you're ready to go."
I walked up and saw my dad combing his hair in the big mirror. "Hey dad, I'm ready."
"Alright. How are you? I know you had quite the nightmare last night."
"Oh yeah, sorry for waking you guys. A shark was coming at me full speed, it scared me to the point of screaming in real life."
My dad patted my back. "It's okay, it was just your imagination. I remember I had a buddy in high school who was almost attacked by a shark. A lifeguard saved him just in time though."
"Wow. That must've been one brave lifeguard."
"Yep. Let's get going."

As my dad and I were driving to school I stared out the window the whole time. You could barely see the ocean from where we were now. My dad glanced over to me and smiled. "You need a haircut kiddo. You're hair is getting super long."
I looked down at my hair, he was right. My hair was extra light at the tips from the ocean and being sun kissed. A simple every day solution would be to get a haircut, but getting a hair cut means they either spray your hair with water or completely wash it. I don't think there's many ways of getting out of that.
"No, I like my hair the way it is." I smiled.
"You're just like your mother, she's had long, wavy hair from the day I met her."

I said goodbye as I got out of the car. My school wasn't the worst, it had its moments. But overall, I just wanted the days to get by and over with. Every class period that went by made me more anxious to get out into the ocean. At lunch Lia was more quiet than usual.
"Is there something wrong?" I asked."Nah, we just haven't spent any best friend time together."
"Oh...yeah I'm sorry. I've just been busy lately."
"Busy with Lucas? Just admit you have a thing for him already."
"No! I'm not ready to have a boyfriend, you know that. I've just been caught up at home and stuff." I lied.
"Whatever. Can you hang out later today?" She asked.
"Um...I don't think I can. I have research to do."
