The next day was pretty uneventful. I eventually made it back to the shore yesterday after swimming away from Lucas. I still don't know if he saw anything, and I'd rather not find out. I just wish I could tell someone. Meet another mermaid, to share the journey with. That would be amazing.

I walked a long the beach, humming a tune that's from a song that doesn't exist. Ever since I became a mermaid, my singing voice is flawless. It sounds beautiful, even haunting and hypnotizing. I've read about siren mermaids; mermaids that would sing and rail in sailors and drown them with their enchanting voices. That's why I never sing in public. I'm scared it could be dangerous.

"Hey! I'm guessing you come here a lot" Lucas laughed as he ran up to me me.

"Heh yeah, it's my favorite place."

"Mine too. Oh yeah, after you left yesterday, I went swimming. I saw the most amazing thing ever!"

Oh dang. Hopefully it was just a clown fish or something.

"Like what?" I asked.

"I'm not really sure what it was. I only saw it for about two seconds. But it looked like it had hair...like ours. And the tail was amazing. I've never seen a fish tail like that before. It was a shimmering blue-green color. I bet it's something super rare, but I have no idea on how to find out.

Oh. No.

"Oh, wow that's cool! Maybe it was just a new species of fish." I said trying to convince him it was nothing big."

"But it had hair! Like a brownish color, but aqua with it."

Did I mention my streaks of my hair turn aqua when I'm a mermaid? I'm guessing it's for camouflage.

"What? Hmm that's weird. Eh maybe just forget about, oh look! A snow cone stand! Let's go get one!" I said quickly trying to distract him away from the subject.

"Woah, slow down!" He said running up to the stand. We ordered some snow cones and sat at a bench.

"So how I things?" I asked.

"Well, besides the mysterious fish, not much. I'm not doing very good in school though. My grades are dropping." He said droopy.

"Oh, why?" I asked.

"I don't know. I've never been super smart or anything. I'm not dumb, sometimes things just don't click. You know?"

"Yeah. That's how I feel about math. I'm pretty good in history and English though. If you ever need help, just give me a call" I smiled.

"I don't think I have your number." He said.

"Oh, here, hand me your phone."

He pulled out his iPhone and I added my contact, then handed it back to him. "Thanks" he smiled as he put his phone away.

"Yep, I should get going. See ya at school."

"Wait! You're going already?" He asked as his eyebrows slanted.

"Well, I suppose I could stay for a little while." I smiled sitting back down.

"Yay! Long enough

For a quick dip in the ocean?"

No! Gosh, what am I supposed to say now.

"Uh...nah. I don't really like swimming, sorry."

Hopefully that ended that.

"What? But everyone loves swimming here!"

"I know, I don't know I just really don't want to."

"Okay, I see now." He said slowly.

"What?"

"You're scared! Of sharks and stuff!"

"No I'm n- wait. Yes. Yep, that's it. You got me. I was too embarrassed to tell you." I lied.

"Aw, it's alright! I'll protect you. It'll be fun I promise." He said as he grabbed me wrist and started walking towards the water.

Oh no. I have to think of an escape plan- and fast.

"No! Lucas please no!" I said trying to let go of his grip. Dang he's strong.

"Just trust me!" He said gripping harder.

Okay, now he's cutting off my blood circulation.

"Please! Let go!" I yelled.

He looked me straight in the eyes. His hazel eyes were intently staring. "I'm trying to help you get over your fear okay?"

"But I'm fine! I just don't like water! Salty, gross, fishy, water!" I lied again.

We were now an inch away from water.

I only had one plan. "CATCH ME NOW!" I yelled as I jumped into the air.

I nearly fell into the water. He caught me at the last second. "Well that was unexpected!" He said quickly.

"Sorry, I'm just really afraid of large bodies of water." I said with a puppy dog face. One drop doesn't hurt me, but if I get splashed or something, it's good bye legs, hello tail.

"Fine." He said walking out of the water.

He put me back down lightly onto the sand. "I'm sorry, I know you were just trying to help." I apologized.

"It's okay. But I will eventually get you in the water, somehow." He winked.

Oh dear.
