– MAL WAS SITTING, WAITING FOR THE TRACKING DEVICE TO DO SOMETHING WHEN SHE HEARD IT. A strange voice invading her mind. Hello Malina. She looked up with a frown, and just seconds later, he appeared, shackled and surrounded by guards as they marched him off to be locked up. Loki. His eyes found hers quickly, a smirk on his face. She wasn't surprised to realise he knew who she was. Just unprepared. She found her eyes could not look away until he had disappeared again, and a shiver ran down her spine when she did. She'd spent her childhood knowing she must have come from someone who gave her up, but she never imagined it would be a Norse god.

Kallian and Steve had spoken very little on the jet, mostly in snippets of 'I thought you were dead' followed by brief explanations as to how each of them was not. Now she stood beside her brother, who muttered under his breath about Loki.

It was interrupted, however, by an elated voice as two new faces entered the room. "Kallian!" She turned, shock written across her face to find a blur with purple hair streaking across the room  toward her and leaping into her embrace.

"Mal!" She pulled the girl in close with a chuckle. "What are you doing here??"

Mal fidgeted slightly with a shy yet mischievous smile. "I maybe... stowed away when I head what was going on. One of the compromised agents, he was the one who took me in."

"I see." Kallian tugged one of Mal's curls lightly. "New hair. I like it."

She giggled. "Thanks."

Just then, the screens on the table flickered to life; an image of Loki in a round, glass prison. All attention immediately focused there. "In case it's unclear," They heard Fury say. "You try to escape, you so much as scratch that glass," Wind whistled from where the ground beneath the prison opened to reveal the enormous fall below. "Thirty thousand feet, straight down in a steel trap! You get how that works?" The whistling stopped as the ship closed back up. "Ant, boot."

Loki chuckled. "It's an impressive cage. Not built, I think, for me."

"Built for something a lot stronger than you."

"Oh, I've heard." He looked straight into the monitors now. "A mindless beast, makes play he's still a man. How desperate are you that you call on such lost creatures to defend you?"

"How desperate am I?" Fury repeated darkly. "You threaten my world with war. You steal a force you can't hope to control. You talk about peace and you kill cause it's fun. You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did."

"Oh," Loki breathed, a mocking look on his face. "It burns you to have come so close. To have the Tesseract, to have power, unlimited power. And for what?" He glanced back at the monitor. "A warm light for all mankind to share. And then to be reminded what real power is."

"Well, let me know if 'real power' wants a magazine or something." Fury replied. Loki cast one last look at the cameras, and then they flickered off.

Bruce was the first to speak up. "He really grows on you, doesn't he?"

"Loki's gonna drag this out." Steve said. "So, Thor, Kallian." She didn't miss the way her name hitched in his mouth, as if he'd almost slipped and called her Kallie. Her chest ached slightly at how unfamiliar they suddenly felt. He didn't trust her like he used to. And why should he? You lied. "What's his play?"
