DISCLAIMER: So guys, I think it's safe to say I now get the hype behind the Scream franchise. But apparently, I've chosen the wrong year to become a fan.
I decided to binge-watch the series in two days just for the hell of it back in May and what I found was a series that, for the most part, has remained timeless in many aspects. Yes, the impact of these films' success has been SEVERELY dulled over these past decades but the 'movie within a movie' idea was and, in some ways, still is terrific and the frequent references to classic horror movies, and reversals of accepted horror cliches, displayed a strong sense of self-awareness and cleverness that other slashers nowadays are missing. That being said, it hasn't exactly been smooth sailing: Scream 1 and SCRE4M are my favorites although they often jockey for position a lot, 2 is decent and 3 is a guilty pleasure. It wasn't until I got to 5CREAM and Scream VI that problems started to arise: while the former was very safe and needlessly annoying, the latter had passed down some of its issues but was a moderate improvement enough to justify my making this story. So here we are.
UPDATE: With more news breaking on Scream VII's development and the future of the franchise now in complete disarray due to WHAT JUST HAPPENED recently, I can't let this slide. What I'm writing down probably won't be the film we'll end up getting but this is me putting down what I wanted to see. Let me give this franchise a proper sendoff to finish the story.
All of these characters (Sidney, Gale, Sam, Tara, Kirby, etc) I DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT own under any circumstances. All of the rights go courtesy to their respective owner(s).
