Jennie naturally saw everything. She remained quiet while mocking the old coots for being so ignorant in her heart. It was not that she did not want to mock them just yet; it was just that she was waiting for the opportunity to teach the gossipers a great lesson.
One day, one of the chiefs who had frequent contact with Jennie summoned a huge amount of courage and questioned her if she was involved in Su Gyeom's accident.
Jennie stared at him as if looking at an idiot before she snorted, "When I was married, my grandfather and father each contributed five percent of the company's shares to me as my engagement gifts. In addition to their shares, I have five percent of the company's shares myself, and this adds up to a grand total of fifteen percent shares. In other words, I am already one of the major shareholders in the company. My shares alone have already exceeded Su Gyeom's and his family. Do you think there is a need for me to do anything more to him?"
One had to say that a domineering explanation was always better than a patient and calm explanation. Jennie spoke the words with extreme arrogance. As such, the chief found himself wordless in refuting her.
Those people whose faiths had shaken felt as if they had been struck by lightning, and quickly snapped out of their dazes.
Jennie was right. From the beginning, she and Su Gyeom had already started from different starting points. Would a superior who looked down on others from a domineering position lower her prestigious standard, and lay a hand on someone who was already on the brink of collapsing?
As such, the gossip that had spread like wildfire immediately came to a halt and vanished into thin air after Jennie spoke the words.
The directors who had spread the word turned as white as sheets and felt deeply humiliated when they learned of it.
However, since everyone had made a fuss out of it, it was difficult for Jennie to act as if she was not aware of it.
Since everyone was aware of it, logically speaking, as Su Gyeom's superior and relative, it would not reflect well on Jennie if she did not show her concern for Su Gyeom, despite the fact that if she did, she would most likely be mocked by him. However, the fact was, he had already done so to her.
Of course, Jennie would not be so stupid as to pay him a visit on her own, only to get herself pissed off. Therefore, she rationally assigned a representative to deliver some gifts for Su Gyeom and show concern for him out of courtesy and formality.
As soon as Lim Ji-yeon and the rest of her group learned that the gifts were from Jennie, their grateful demeanor instantly darkened. If it had not been for Raewon stopping her by the side, Lim Ji-yeon would have kicked the person out.
However, even though she did not lay a hand on the person, before he departed, Lim Ji-yeon snorted, "Hypocrite."
The person was taken aback, and he gradually took wider strides as he walked away. He made quips to himself as he walked out of the room. 'No wonder the General Manager is reluctant to pay a visit to them. Even if she comes over, she would also be chastised. I wonder how people who lack basic courtesy can even survive today. Sigh... The great families are complicated. It's best to get out of here as soon as possible.'
Raewon naturally heard his wife's sneer. He usually dared not complain about anything. However, today, he no longer held himself back and grumbled, "How can you say that? Jennie is so kind enough to..."
"Kind?" Lim Ji-yeon raised her voice and cast a disdainful glance at Raewon. "That bitch wishes Su Gyeom died early so that she can usurp the Kim family's fortunes. Only an idiot like you will think that she meant well by sending someone over to visit him. If she has good intentions, why didn't she come on her own? It's obvious that she's guilty. She could even be the major culprit who contributed to Su Gyeom's accident. And these..."
Lim Ji-yeon lifted the things that the person had sent over and threw them on the floor in disdain. "These are the gifts from that bitch. She may have even added something noxious to them in order to aggravate Su Gyeom's health."
"You..." Raewon and Lim Ji-yeon had been married for many years. He always put up with Lim Ji-yeon and dared not criticize her.
This was the first time in his life arguing with Lim Ji-yeon. At the same time, he finally realized Lim Ji-yeon had always been so unreasonable.
"What's wrong with me? After spending so many years with me, is this your first time knowing that I'm such a straightforward person, huh? Hmph! You're becoming more daring by the day, and you've even dared to speak back to me! Do you feel unhappy when I criticize your niece? Haha! Still, I must say, despite you treating that bitch as your relative, she may never have treated you as her elder. You should reflect on yourself. Jennie is the general manager of the company. You, on the other hand, look at your position inside the company. The staff are laughing at you behind your back. You're already so old and yet, you're still under the control of your niece. Don't you feel ashamed of yourself? Yet, you still have the audacity to scream at me..."
Raewon's face turned red after being taunted by Lim Ji-yeon. He was livid and wanted to refute her. However, just then, he was interrupted by a furious, hoarse voice.
"You two are very noisy! Stop it! Get out if you want to continue to shout at each other!"
The couple was stunned. It took them some time before they snapped out of their dazes and remembered who the person who had spoken was.
"Su Gyeom, you're awake. You scared the hell out of me. Don't worry, regarding this matter, I'll certainly..." Lim Ji-yeon quickly lunged by the bedside agitatedly.
Unfortunately, before she had finished speaking, Su Gyeom had grabbed his forehead and shouted, "Get out!"
"What?"
"I say get out! Don't you hear me?"
"Su Gyeom..."
"Get lost!"
Lim Ji-yeon was shocked when his son refused to acknowledge her. She looked at Su Gyeom dumbfoundedly and did not know what to do.
Raewon was the first to react to this. He went forward and grabbed her hand. He said, "Su Gyeom has just awoken. He must have felt uncomfortable. We shouldn't stay here and disturb him. Let him take a rest first. It's more urgent to go out and find a doctor to check on him."
Raewon's words had reminded Lim Ji-yeon. At the same time, he had also given her the option of stepping down with dignity. Lim Ji-yeon forced a smile and said gently, "Su Gyeom, lie down on the bed first and wait for us. We'll look for a doctor for you right away."
Su Gyeom touched his aching head. He did not even bother to give a glance at them. However, his annoyed expression had clearly told them how impatient he was at that moment.
Lim Ji-yeon's smile grew increasingly awkward. She heaved a sigh. She gave a look at Su Gyeom before she reluctantly left the ward with Raewon.
Right after Lim Ji-yeon and Raewon had left, Su Gyeom's annoying expression faded. Instead, his face was distorted in pain.
He ignored the saline drip that was attached to his arm. Su Gyeom's first reaction when the pain that felt like a file scratching in his wound subsided was to straighten his back and look at his legs.
When he was confirmed that his legs were still intact, he felt another pain, reminding him that his legs were not completely useless. Su Gyeom was relieved. He leaned backward and laid on the bed..
