Aaron's POV:

This guy is a prick. I wipe my blood off of Raven's hands. It hurt like hell when he had the knife pressed to my throat, but I made sure not to flinch. It's a**hats like him that p*ss me off.

I rearrange Raven's hands so that they're folded on her stomach. Her arms are stiff and hard to move. I can feel my eyes soften on her, cause I know what she's going through and what she will go through.

I harden my eyes and turn around to the Outsider. Hate isn't a strong enough word to describe my opinion of him. If he hadn't been an idiot she wouldn't have gotten involved in this mess.

I look at him and see his eyes glance for a split second to Raven. Does he care about her? I let that thought distract me for a bit. After thinking about it for a while I realize that I'm not getting anywhere in this situation. He doesn't trust me and I don't trust him.

I have to get him to trust me.

So I laugh and say, "I can see why she kept you around."

I hold out my hand as I ask, "What's your name?"

He doesn't take my hand but he does reply, "Devian."

Yeah whatever, I don't give a shit.

"My name's Aaron. Aaron Ekton."

He still doesn't trust me, I can tell from the way he looks at me.

"So Devian, why are you here?" I ask, with a fake smile plastered all over my face.

He smirks at this.

"Trust me Aaron, I wouldn't be here if I could. I'm here because They brought me here."

They. So he knows about Them. Interesting. Before I'm able to ask him another question he cuts in with one of his own.

"What's wrong with her? If she's not dead then why is she like that?"

I hesitate for a bit. Should I answer him? I don't know if I should, but I have to get his guard down somehow. If I could just get his knife...

"That siren that's going off right now, it's a signal. Most people here have a tiny chip in their brain that is activated when they get this signal. It basically freezes all non-essential brainwaves. Which means that although her heart is beating and her lungs still provide oxygen to her body, nearly everything else in her brain has stopped, or rather, paused. She can't hear, see, smell, or feel anything that's going on around her. She might be able to have some idea of the passage of time, but she is practically stuck in the moment before the siren. For her, time is standing still."

"That's disgusting." he says with a look of repulsion on his face.

"Of course it is. But there isn't exactly anything I can do about that, is there?"

"Can you take out the chip?"

I scoff at him. "Sure! If I wanted her to be brain dead then yeah, I would totally take out the chip."

"This place is messed up."

Hmmm. He's not wrong. Maybe he's not that bad. But still, if I want Raven to be safe then he has to go.

Devian's head shoots up in alarm.

"Why would they want her unconscious? " he asks frantically.

Shit. He figured it out. Or he at least has some vague idea of what's happening. They are searching for him.

"I think you know." I say smirking at him.

His face takes on a panicked expression before he suddenly calms down.

"I suggest you leave," he says to me.

What the f*ck? His mood swing throws me off. How come he's so damn calm about this? Any normal person would be freaking out right now. What does he know that I don't?

Right then I hear footsteps coming up the stairs. Not regular footsteps, quiet, stealthy footsteps. I look at Devian and smirk in triumph.

He just smirks back before pressing a button on his suit and disappearing.

He's gone. They door quietly opens.

Shit.
