Now i will not be discussing the cover of the 1997's movie because I don't think it tells a story like the cover from the first movie does.

Our first subject is the cover of the 1962's movie. You can see Dolores (or "Lolita" as she is called by Humbert) eating a red, heartshaped lollypop and wearing her well-known red, heartshaped sunglasses. The picture is up close to her face and Dolores is looking into the camera over her sunglasses. Just like in the movie we are seeing the young girl from Humbert's perspective, so we seem to be looking down on her. This shows the powerdynamic between them, both because he is an adult and she is a child, but also because he is physically much stronger than Dolores.

The colours that are uses in the cover also play into his idea of the child. the soft colour of the light, the pink colour of her skin and lips and the pastel yellow in the background show Humbert's "romantic" attraction towards the 14 year old. But these colours also show Dolores' innocence and the fact that she is just a child. Wich let's us see glimpses of the real Dolores and not the romanticized version of her that the predator has in his mind. But the red from her sunglasses and lollypop show the pedophile's sexual desires and view of the child.
