Once my footsteps walked away from Prince that night, I dove back into projects. Me Staying any longer would've kicked off one screaming match between us and I refused to stoop that low. We weren't kids running on the playground anymore.
Article features. Press interviews. Movie premieres. Concerts. Hosting gigs. Industry parties. Even more music video appearances. Life moved on. As of this very moment, there was no other choice. Though my heart missed him, I'd never beg.
And yet, Prince still "found" my answering machine. These days, my husband spoke towards the void in my apartment while set in other places. Hotel rooms. Recording studios. Offices. There were still too many locations to count this time.
Message #1: "Baby, I'm sorry."
Message #2: "I'll come back and I promise that we'll talk. No jealousy, Mama."
Message #3 "I love you so much, Ro. Please call me back...."

Stars pulled through to celebrate once more after I made an announcement.
Denise returned with her sisters. Mike showed his face again. Even Paula Abdul arrived. With each familiar visit, it was clear that my career still made noise.
