Her POV:
As soon as I entered my company, all the employees started carrying out their tasks and greeted me with a "Good morning." Walking towards the elevator, I acknowledged their greetings with a stern face. Yes, that's the effect I have on people. They know I don't tolerate any slackness when it comes to work, so they always try to avoid getting on my bad side.
With each step, the sound of my 7-inch heels echoed through the building. It was the only sound audible since I arrived.
I headed straight for my elevator and pressed the button for the 51st floor. While waiting for the elevator to reach the desired level, my thoughts wandered to my life. Having my own company was a dream come true, and I was proud of my achievements. I vividly remember the events that led me to where I am now.
My father, Mr. Gwen Anderson, and my mother, Mrs. Aria Rose Anderson, were the epitome of loving parents. We were a wealthy family, with my father serving as the CEO of Anderson Enterprises and my mother as the vice president. They were known as one of the power couples, and I was their only child.
They always made time for me, and our family was genuinely happy. It was my 11th birthday, and my parents decided to take me to an amusement park located outside the city. We were singing "We Are Family" in the car.
"Living life is fun and we've just begun
To get our share of the world's delights
(High!) high hopes we have for the future
And our goals' in sight
(We!) no, we don't get depressed
Here's what we call our golden rule
Have faith in you and the things you do
You won't go wrong
This is our family jewel
We are family...
"After singing, my mother said, "Baby, we have a surprise for you. But before that, you should know that we love you, and we will always be there for you."
"A surprise? I can't wait to see it! I love you too, Mommy," I replied with excitement, leaning in to kiss my mother. I was seated in the backseat while my dad drove, and my mom sat in the passenger seat.
"Of course, baby. We'll reveal the surprise once we reach the amusement park," she answered.
My dad turned his head toward me, wearing a sad expression, and asked, "Princess, what about me? Don't you love me?"
I moved closer to him into the middle of their seats and planted a kiss on his cheek, assuring him, "I love you both." Little did I know that it would be the last time I would utter those words to them. Suddenly, a truck crashed into our car, and I screamed, "Mom!" before losing consciousness.
After a while, I faintly heard the sound of an ambulance and slowly opened my eyes. Everything was blurry, but I saw them—my parents.
My father's head was slumped over the steering wheel, blood oozing from his body. Then I noticed my mother, her arms wrapped around me, shielding me from harm. She was breathing heavily. I called out to her, and she struggled to speak, "Wee... lo... vvveee... Yo... uu." Those were the last words I heard from her before slipping into unconsciousness again.
I woke up two days later in the hospital, disoriented and confused. I immediately asked the nurse about my parents, and the tears in her eyes told me everything. They were gone.
Uncle Richard, my father's younger brother, came to me. He embraced me tightly and informed me about what had happened to my parents.
My dad had died on impact, while my mother was in critical condition when she was admitted. Unfortunately, she didn't survive the operation, hearing this I again lost my consciousness.
There was another piece of information I discovered that day. I stirred awake hearing the doctor's voice and caught fragments of their conversation. They informed my uncle that my mother was one month pregnant at the time of the accident. The police had also found a drawing in my mother's bag. I was beyond shock, tears streaming down my face. It was unbelievable—within an instant, I had lost my entire family.
I rushed to the inspector, his hands clutching the paper, and begged to see it. There it was, the drawing I had made for my family two months ago, depicting me, Mom, Dad, and a little brother. I had shown it to my mom once and expressed my desire for a younger sibling.
They had fulfilled my wish, and perhaps that was the surprise they had planned for my birthday. But instead, all I received was overwhelming loneliness. If only I hadn't asked them to take me to the amusement park, I would still have my family.
A week later, my uncle took me to his home. It wasn't as grand as ours, but it was spacious enough for five people. My aunt and her daughter were there to meet me. Initially, they were all supportive, helping me cope with the sorrow and showing me love and care but as time passed, their behavior toward me changed. They grew cold and distant, expecting me to fend for myself and do all the household chores, I did all of those as I didn't want to lose my new family.
I thought that they loved me but after four years, I got to know the truth when one day I overheard their plan to exploit me for their gain, using the properties my parents had left me in their will. Once they had extracted all they could, they intended to cast me aside. Upon hearing this revelation, I realized that their love had been fake.
Everyone in this world seemed to be driven by selfishness, and I could no longer find solace in the concept of love. That day, I decided to live for myself and reclaim all that was rightfully mine.
To achieve this, I knew I had to become someone more powerful and influential than those who sought to take advantage of me. That's when I resolved to become a successful businesswoman and escape from their grasp.
The sound of the elevator arriving interrupted my long recollection. With a sigh, I composed myself and proceeded toward my office.
