The day arrived when Lan Zhan and his family journeyed to Yunmeng Jiang to visit the Jiang family. Their arrival brought an air of anticipation and excitement to the household, as everyone prepared for the meeting of the two young individuals who could potentially become betrothed.

Lan Zhan, accompanied by his elder brother Lan Huan (Xichen) and their parents, entered the grand halls of the Jiang residence. The atmosphere was formal and dignified, contrasting with Wei Ying's lively and spirited nature. Lan Zhan couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as he observed her mischievous antics from a distance.

Lan Huan, ever the diplomatic and perceptive one, sensed the tension between Lan Zhan and Wei Ying. With the intention of helping them get to know each other better, he devised a plan. Under the guise of wanting to explore the beautiful gardens surrounding the estate, Lan Huan proposed that Wei Ying and Lan Zhan spend some time together alone.

Despite Lan Zhan's resistance and reluctance, his parents and Lan Huan gently encouraged him to accept the proposal. They believed that this would provide an opportunity for Wei Ying and Lan Zhan to discover each other's true selves beyond the surface-level impressions.

As Wei Ying and Lan Zhan found themselves strolling through the picturesque gardens, the silence between them was palpable. Wei Ying, usually full of chatter and infectious energy, sensed Lan Zhan's discomfort and decided to break the ice.

"Isn't this garden beautiful?" she remarked, her eyes sparkling with genuine admiration. "The flowers are blooming so vibrantly, just like the colors of life itself."

Lan Zhan, though initially guarded, couldn't help but be drawn to the genuine enthusiasm in Wei Ying's voice. Reluctantly, he replied, "Yes, it is indeed well-maintained. The Lan family takes pride in their gardens."

As they continued their walk, Wei Ying's curiosity got the better of her. She began asking Lan Zhan about his hobbies, his interests, and his dreams. Despite his reserved nature, Lan Zhan couldn't help but be intrigued by Wei Ying's genuine interest in getting to know him.

Their conversation started to flow more naturally, revealing glimpses of their true selves beneath the surface. Wei Ying shared stories of her childhood adventures, her love for cultivation, and her dreams of exploring the world beyond the Jiang Empire's borders. Lan Zhan, in turn, opened up about his passion for music, his dedication to his cultivation practice, and his desire to uphold the values of the Lan family.

Days passed since Wei Ying and Lan Zhan's unexpected date in the gardens of the Jiang residence. The connection that had slowly started to form between them left both of them grappling with their feelings and the weight of the impending engagement. Their paths crossed once again, but this time, it was a conversation that would alter the course of their lives.

Lan Zhan sought out Wei Ying, his usually composed demeanor betraying the inner turmoil he was experiencing. With a heavy heart, he led her to a secluded corner of the estate, far from prying eyes and curious ears. It was there that he mustered the courage to speak his truth.

"Wei Ying," Lan Zhan began, his voice filled with a mixture of anguish and determination, "I must speak honestly with you. I cannot go forward with this engagement. Our differences are too vast, and our natures are not compatible."

Wei Ying's heart sank at his words, the hope that had blossomed within her suddenly wilting. She struggled to find her voice, but her eyes, filled with a mixture of confusion and hurt, implored him to continue.

Lan Zhan took a deep breath, his gaze never leaving hers. "I need you to understand that I will never be able to love someone like you. Our personalities clash, and I fear that it will lead to nothing but unhappiness for both of us."

Tears welled up in Wei Ying's eyes, her voice barely above a whisper. "But Lan Zhan, we have only just begun to know each other. Can't we give it a chance? Love is not solely based on similarities; it can transcend differences."

Lan Zhan's expression softened, a flicker of sadness passing through his eyes. "Wei Ying, there is something else I must confess to you. I already have a girlfriend from the Jin Empire. Our relationship is not public, but I care deeply for her. I cannot enter into a marriage with you while my heart belongs to another."

Wei Ying's world crumbled around her as the weight of Lan Zhan's words settled in. Her hopes and dreams of a future with him shattered, leaving behind a void that seemed impossible to fill. She felt a mix of betrayal, heartache, and confusion, struggling to comprehend the whirlwind of emotions swirling within her.

Through tear-filled eyes, she managed to utter a broken question. "Why did you agree to this engagement in the first place if you already had someone you cared for?"

Lan Zhan's voice wavered, revealing a vulnerability seldom seen. "I wanted to fulfill my family's wishes and uphold the alliance between our empires. But I now realize that it was a mistake, and it would be unfair to both of us to proceed."

Silence enveloped them as the weight of their unspoken truths hung in the air. The path they had begun to walk together had diverged into separate directions, leaving them both feeling lost and alone.

In that moment, Wei Ying summoned her strength and resilience. She wiped away her tears, her voice filled with determination. "Lan Zhan, I cannot force you to feel something you do not. But please understand that I deserve a love that is wholehearted and reciprocated. I will not be a part of a loveless marriage, and I hope you find happiness with the one you truly love."

With those words, Wei Ying turned and walked away, her steps firm and resolute. She vowed to heal her wounded heart and find her own path, one that would lead her to a love that embraced her untamed spirit.
