Chapter Eight: Brothers
—————————————————————Vincent Salvatore followed the sound of his brothers taunting voice all the way up to the roof of the Mystic grill. Pushing the roof door open he came across the scene of Stefan looking horrified as Damon held Vicky Donovan against the edge of the roof.
"Ah brother, nice of you to join us, we're just chatting!" Damon called. "Weren't we Vicky?"
"Let her go." Stefan said, his eyes frantic, his movements slow and hesitant.
"Really? Okay." Damon released Vickys arm, the teen almost falling off the roof, before she could Damon grabbed her arm and pushed her towards Stefan. "Relax."
"What's happening?" Vicky cried.
"I don't need her to be dead, but you two might." Damon said pointing between his younger brothers.
"Damon why are you doing this?" While Stefan was concerned, Vincent was more tired and fed up with his older brother. "Do you really have nothing better to do with your immortal life?" The blonde asks.
Damon bit his lip. "I find this fun, Vince."
"I find it pathetic." Vincent shoots back.
Damon sighs. "I'm trying to teach our baby bro a lesson." He began. Damon looked back down to Vicky. "What attacked you the other night?"
Vicky sniffled as she turned to look up at Damon. "I don't know. An animal." She replies.
"Are you sure about that? Think. Think about it. Think really hard." Damon was now bending down in front of her. "What attacked you?" Neither Vincent or Stefan tried to stop him because they too wanted to know her answer. They wanted to know if Stefan's compulsion worked.
Vicky was deep in thought before she suddenly flinched. "Vampire."
"Who did this to you?" Damon asked loudly.
"You did!" Vicky cried.
"Wrong. It was Stefan."
"Don't." Stefan pleads.
Damon pulled Vicky to her feet and made her face him. "Stefan Salvatore did this to you." He compelled the teen, until Vicky herself was repeating the words. "He's a Vampire, a vicious, murderous monster."
"Please Damon, don't. Don't do this." Stefan now begs, looking to his other brother for help. Vincent was cautiously stepping closer to Damon.
"If you couldn't fix it before, I don't know what you can do now." Damon said as he stepped closer to Stefan. "Of course besides running to Vincent for help, like you always do." Damon ripped Vicky's bandage off revealing the bite he'd given her the other night. Vincent understood what his older brother was trying to do, he was trying to get Stefan to feed, he wanted to see his brother lose his morals and become the murderous monster he told Vicky he was.
Damon pushed Vicky right into Stefan's arms and when Vincent tried to intervene, Damon had him by the neck. "Your choice of lifestyle, has made you weak." He spat at Stefan. "A couple of Vampire parlor tricks, is nothing compared to the power that you could have, that you now need. Tell him Vince, you know I'm right."
Damon was much stronger than Vincent at the moment. As Damon was coercing Stefan to feed on Vicky all Vincent could do was glare at his older brother. Many years, he wished Damon would change, or at least higher his level of maturity. Vincent's hope was always short filled with every encounter he had with eldest brother. His hope for Stefan to resist his urges was much higher than any sort of aspiration he had for Damon, and he knew his younger brother would stick with his humanity, Vampire and all.
Stefan let out a frustrated grunt before shoving Vicky away. His eyes no longer rimmed with the color red with dark veins running in streaks down each side of his face and his fangs dispersing.
Damon simply rolled his eyes, releasing Vincent's neck. He walked closer to Stefan who was hunched over attempting to control his breathing. "You can feed and make her forget." Damon began. "Or you can let her run, screaming Vampire through the town square."
"That's what this is about? You want to expose me?"
"No!" Damon bursts. "I want you to remember who you are!"
"Why? So I'll feed? So I'll kill? So I'll remember what it's like to be brothers again?" Stefan said emphasizing the word 'brothers'."
"You know what, let her go. Let her tell everyone that Vampire have returned to mystic falls, let them chain me up and let them drive a stake through my heart, cause at least I'll be free of you." Stefan seethed.
Vincent knew Stefan had gotten to Damon, melodramatic and all. Though Damon put on an unamused face, every time Stefan told him he wanted nothing to do with him, Damon's ego shrunk a little more each time. Vincent took the opportunity of his brother's intense stare off to attend Vicky, erase all the things Damon compelled into her mind, but she wouldn't look him in the eye, and Vincent wouldn't force her to.
Damon chuckle filled Vincent's ears. "Always so gentle brother." He mocked, forcing Vicky to look at him. Damon muttered a line of It's okay's, before whispering something into her ear, something Vincent or Stefan didn't catch. Confusion took over the two brothers faces, they both knew how unpredictable Damon could be. They watched as their brother stood, proud of himself for something unknown to them.
"What happened? Where am I?" Vicky asks confused. She grunts going to feel her neck. "Oh I ripped my stitches open."
"You okay?" Vincent asks her.
"I took some pills, man." She laughs. "I'm good." Vicky stands to her feet and stumbles over to the roof door.
"It's good to be home!" Damon exclaims. "I think I might stay a while. This town could use a bit of a wake up call, don't ya' think?"
"What are you up to Damon?" Stefan asks.
"That's for me to know, and for you," Damon pointed between his brothers. "to dot, dot, dot."
Damon smiles. "Give the Gilbert girls my best."
Damon disappears. Leaving Stefan and Vincent pondering over how to solve their new problem.
