Lana's POV
As I woke up this morning, I felt a surprising absence of the usual pounding sensation in my head. It was as if the fifty mountain dwarves who usually mined for gold in my skull were on a break. I didn't ponder on it too long and just decided to take advantage of the good and make the most of my day.
I got out of bed and walked over to the window to open the curtains. The bright Floridan sun outside hit my eyes, making me wince and walk away quickly. I went to brush my teeth in the bathroom, trying to avoid the intense sunlight. Today was my first day at the bookstore, and I was hoping to make it through the day without losing my patience with a certain short boy.
As I descended the stairs and fought with my backpack's zipper, I spotted Luca eating cereal. She looked how I usually did in the mornings, shitty. And I couldn't help but smile. "How the tables have turned," I joked. Luca responded by giving me the middle finger and a "Get the fuck off to work." I snorted but nonetheless obeyed my twin sister.
I drove slowly, determined not to speed as I usually did. After a few minutes, I parked my car shittily across from the bookshop. As I opened the door and walked inside, the bell above the door chimed. "Hello," a familiar voice greeted me. I already knew who it was. "Hello to you too," I replied, trying my best to be polite. Camille was staring at me, and I could feel his gaze on me. "What?" I asked, turning to face him. He muttered something unintelligible and directed me to put my backpack in the break room, "So Marcy told me to teach you how to accept orders and use a register." Camille said as I walked out of the break room, "Can you use a register?" He followed up, and I scoffed as if that was an everyday skill,
"I'm sorry, Cami, I don't know how to use a cash register," I replied, expecting him to be annoyed by the nickname I had given him. "That's quite creative of you, I suppose I'll have to teach you," he scoffed in frustration. Then the shorter boy sighed, but surprisingly, he didn't seem to be irritated by the nickname.
"Come here," Camille said, gesturing for me to come closer. I took a big step and stood next to him, as he began showing me how to operate the register. He pointed to different buttons and explained their functions, but I wasn't paying attention. Honestly, I was staring at his face.
He had sharp features and striking eyes, the type of brown eyes that looked golden even without the sunlight shining on them. His hair complimented his eyes nicely, a nice dirty blond color it laid neatly pushed back with a few strands falling onto his face.
"Are you even listening?" Camille suddenly asked, but I only noticed that he had a mole under each of his eyes, "Lana." I looked at him, probably looking like an idiot, "Were you staring at my face?" Camille asked, and I shook my head quickly, "Huh, of course not, go back to stacking books. I'm sure I can handle the cat's register." He spared me one more glance before disappearing into the shelves, I took a deep breath in and then let it go.
What the actual fuck was I thinking? Yes, he was attractive, and yes, he had plum- soft-looking lips, but staring? Was I completely out of it? Was I that sexually deprived? "Fuck" I said to myself.
Like 40 minutes into our shift, I realized.
I was sexually deprived.
After Camille chuckled at a witty remark I made, I felt an intense urge to touch him. The way his eyes sparkled and his lips curved into a smile made my heart race. Even though I knew it was weird, I couldn't help but imagine what it would feel like to run my fingers through his hair or brush my hand against his cheek. I knew I had to keep my perverted thoughts to myself. The clock was ticking, and I only had 20 minutes left in my shift. If I didn't control my impulses, I might end up confessing my sexual attraction to him before the day was even over.
"Did I tell you about the employee discount?"
"Well if you're asking I'd assume no." Camille scoffed in annoyance at my un-straightforward answer, "Well you've heard it now employees get 20% off." I made a sound to let him know I heard him, he rolled his eyes and went to put the books back where they belonged
The rest of our shift finished without fault and before I knew it we were closing up, "You're pretty." I blurted out randomly as he turned off the light in the break room, "Thanks, of random but thanks." He laughed looking at me. What was wrong with me today...
I didn't waste a single second before sprinting into my car, I needed something to take my mind off this day, off of Camille.

I was at the party. How and why did my days always end at parties? I looked around boredly, I've felt this before last year, I got tired of parties but just a few days later I retreated into my old habits.
Until I spotted a blondish-brownish head of hair that closely resembled Camille's, wait-
"Hey." How did he move so quickly one day he'd tell me the truth with his ninja-like swiftness, "You left these at the bookstore." I glanced at his hand, "Oh thanks would've been dead if I lost them." I said my hand brushing him as I picked up my house keys from his sof- I mean nice hands. Camille smiled and it happened again, the feeling of having the air knocked right out of me and the thing I did next was so stupid I didn't know if it was the alcohol or stupidity.
I kissed him.
I kissed Camille and I didn't understand why.
