I WISH I WAS ENOUGH - CHAPTER 6
"Oh and that's Mr. Thomas, he's the chemistry teacher. To get on his good side, all you have to do is show up to class with a pen, paper, and gummy bears." Jamilla retorted as she pointed to the balding man down the hall. He was talking to a student, probably reviewing the work that the student was turning in.
So far, Jamilla showed me all of my classes, and detour routes to get to my destination quicker and also to ditch my destinations. She showed me where the auditorium was, our school gym, and a few courtyard spots. Jamilla was super studious and helpful with any question I asked. And when passing by students when the bells rang, she pointed out a few kids that she thought I would potentially click with. I hadn't paid much of the students that she pointed out any mind because I hadn't a clue on how to randomly make friends but I would keep some of the people she showed me in mind.
Jamilla was laughing at a joke she had made regarding the maintenance of the school just as the bell rang. I jumped out of my skin from the loud noise and the hairs on my skin raised as I began seeing kids running out of their classes, all going in the same direction.
"That's the lunch bell, wanna check out the cafeteria?" Jamilla asked, checking her phone as she got a text from someone.
I nodded and she tugged my arm and wrapped her arm around mine. "Okay, so let me give you the real tea on how lunch goes. There's the dance group, that takes up about two tables in the front. We have the theater kids that sit directly at the heart of the cafeteria, they're loud and a bit...unique. There are the kids that just sit around and change tables every day, there's—"
"Jamilla!" Her sentence was abruptly cut off by a guy calling her name from behind us. Jamilla and I both turned around to spot who had been calling her. My eyes were stunned as I looked up and immediately caught three pairs of light brown, almost hazel eyes staring directly at me, or her, or us? I honestly don't know.
Three athletic tall guys were walking towards us, clearing their paths as kids would frantically get out of their way once they saw them coming. The first one, he stood off to the right. He was shorter than the other two, his head was covered by a blue-colored durag and he waved off to guys that would wave to him. His smile illuminated the hall and I couldn't stop staring at the smile that graced his baby face. The second guy stood off to the left. He was much taller than the first guy, with short natural curls, and a sharp tapeline. He was way more built than the first one as well. The creases around his mouth tugged as he sent a smile our way as well. But the last one stunned me the most. He stood in the middle between the others. He was the tallest of the group, his dark hair was cut low but his haircut was fresh. His face was restrained, and void of really anything, while his eyes were a shade darker than the others. I could see him clench his jaw as his eyes trailed up and they connected with mine.
"Brooklyn, and these, are the Bryant brothers, aka the most well known Wellington High basketball players. Montrell Bryant, Calvin Bryant, and the last one is Lovell Bryant." She smiled, as they approached us.
