Sage's POV

"How's school, Sage?" mom asked me while we are both having a dinner.

"It's fine, mom." I answered with a serious reaction and suddenly asked her, "Where is dad? He hasn't been home for a week. I rarely see him as well. Do you know where he is?"

"He's busy with the business, Sage." mom said and gave a faint smile but she wasn't able to look into my eyes when she answered me.

"Do you love dad?"

"Of course, hon. But I love you more." mom said and that's when she looked at me.

You know when people lie or not if they look into your eyes when they say something.

"Mom, I just wanted to know why you and dad fought a lot when I was little?"

"Mga hindi lang napagkakasunduan. But don't worry, wala na 'yun. It's all in the past. Now, we are together and making sure na di na kami mag-aaway."

I sighed deeply and took a moment before I asked her again.

As I watch her drink the water on her glass, mom seems to be somewhat shaking.

"Mom, can you please answer me honestly?"

"Yes, Sage?"

"Was there ever a reason that you and dad fought because of... someone?" I asked, "A third party?"

Mom gave me a worried look but then shifted into a faint smile.

"Sabi ko naman sayo, Sage, may mga hindi lang pinagkasunduan kami ng dad mo noon like 'yung rules and responsibilities namin as parents for you. We are both working hindi ka na namin naaalagaan that much." mom answered.

Why does mom doesn't want to say the truth?

"Does dad still love you, mom? Does he still love us? Does he still love our family?" I asked.

"Yes, Sage. He cares for our family. He cares about you so much." mom said, "Finish your meal and iwanan mo na dyan. Ako na ang maghuhugas. Mag-shower ka na after mo kumain."

She's trying to change the topic.

"Mom, is Solo's dad still alive? I haven't seen him before. Ever since I knew Solo when we were little, I never got the chance to meet him." I asked.

Mom, then, got stunned while looking at her food.

I felt like she was about to cry but she's trying to hold back.

She sighed deeply and smiled at me again.

"I don't have any idea, Sage." mom said, "All I know is that I just love you." she added and caressed my right cheek.

That's when I stopped asking her.

I feel like I am making mom feel bad and I don't want to see her cry.

What happened when I was gone?

Is there something that I don't know?
