Chapter 4 : Glowing in Red

Raven's pov

After moving back to the humans' side of the border, we moved everything from Lilith's apartment to mine. It took almost a whole day to move everything, but we couldn't use magic. It would have been too risky and it was unnecessary.

- This is the last box, right..? - asked Jane, with genuine hope that Lilith would say yes.

- Yeah, that's the last one. I can't believe I had so many things in my apartment that we needed 20 boxes to move it.

- You're telling me, I thought this would never end.. - complained Jane.

- That's because you've gotten lazy through all those years you've been using your powers to lift everything. - I said while walking over to the sofa that was opposite to them.

- If you had these powers you would do the same - said Jane.

- I doubt it. - I said and turned to Lilith. She seemed to be deep in thoughts. - What's on your mind Lilith? - I asked her. At first, she looked hesitant, but then she made up her mind and spoke out.

- Raven..

- Yeah?

- Did you ever had a crush on Radu? - she asked and I could see she was a bit nervous about how I would react.

- No, why would you think so?

- Oh, it's just that, we all see that he's handsome and charming and he's breathtaking. I would assume that almost every girl from where I came, would fall for him, so why wouldn't you?

- I see, yeah he's charming and good looking, but he's not my mate and he's not my type of person. Also, he's more like a brother to me, because we grew up together.

- So he's the same age as you?

- Yes.

- Then why is he speaking like he's a hundred years old? You speak like you're the same age as me.

- That is because he's spending more time around the nobel vampires and with the leaders. His father, Lucius is a member of the leaders and he wants Radu to join them when he's ready. Therefore he speaks more formally and poetically. - I said and I waited for a signal that she understood and I could go on. After she gave a small nod, I continued. - I speak more like your generation because I live among you, I spend most of my time at the humans' side of the border.

- It's understandable now why you speak differently even though you're the same age, but there's still something I don't understand - she said sheepishly

- What is it? - I asked back.

- What did you mean by mate? You said that he's not your mate, but I don't really know what that means in your world..

- Oh, sorry. I should have explained that part so you could understand it. A mate is a soulmate, most of the magical worlds creatures have a soulmate. I do too, but I haven't met them yet. Those who find their soulmates are instantly in love with them because of the mate bond that makes them have an extremely strong connection and attraction. When they're close it feels like they have a magnetic energy pushing them towards each other. They say that when you meet your mate it's a magical feeling and the best thing that could ever happen to you. Unfortunately there are a few of us who never meet their mate, either because they are too far apart or because one of them died, or because they chose a second soulmate. Which is the worst that could happen, in some peoples opinion. It's unbelievably painful when your own mate rejects you, it feels like a part of you died and you're in both emotional and physical pain for several days, before it ends. They say it's because you feel the breaking of the mate bond and it feels like your soul just shattered.
