I had my airpod maxes on, hood up and was humming along to 'You belong with Me' by Taylor Swift. The drive to the family lodge was long and agonizing, I'd bagged the best seat in the car, the boot seats. Two of them just for me, my own little cabin. I could lie down and watch neflix, eat and best of all it was away from my brother Max and his stupid friend. I smiled at the thought of being with him for a whole nother week. "Milly, turn that shit down" Max yelled out, only he could get past the noise cancelling that came with the headphones. I rolled my eyes and responded "Oh shut up, as if you two animals aren't being loud enough. Jack and Max had been in the middle seats trying to play fight in a moving vehicle. I caught myself smiling again...that was till Jack sat up and looked around at me. "Milly, you okay??" I stopped my music, letting out a slight smile "Yeah I'm fine why?" I let myself smile. Jacks innocent face turned cruel, "Because you've got some kind of...abnormal hair growth." I looked confused, pulled up Snapchat on my phone and swiped to the camera, revealing a huge bushy sharpie mustache. "YOU WANKERS!!" I screamed, lunging at them from the back seat. I tried getting a couple of hits in before getting shut up from my parents. "Pipe own back there" chortled my dad. How was this funny to him. My mum made eye contact with me in the rear view mirror, and started making kissy faces and twirling her hair around her hand, mocking me. I immediately sat down, plonking back to my comfortable spot. I was silent the rest of the ride.
The car pulled up to our designated parking spot, and everyone burst out of the car, eager to get inside, and out of the numbing cold. I grabbed my Beis travel bag set, and wheeled it into the house. I dropped off my coat in the mud room, rushing up the stairs to get to my room. It was just as I had left it last year, the wooden floors, walls and roof gave it the classic rustic lodge feel. I loved being back here, it's cozy embrace always making me feel welcome, however something was wrong. I frowned at the decor. The room was covered with my past academic achievements, my desk covered with pencils and paperwork. The walls adorned with band posters and nerdy wall art. The double bed with crusty red and yellow sheets and a log bed frame. I got to work, unzipping the separate backpack I'd brought, filled with my new lives achievements. Photos of me and my friends, new decor and thank fuck new sheets.. I ripped down the stupid posters, art work and threw out the old paperwork. The new desk drawers hosted neatly organized makeup, brushes and hair care. The top of desk had skincare on a rotating organizer, a light up hollywood mirror and a photo board with different instax polaroids, digital camera prints of me and my friends out to dinner, and partying. The bed was changed to have crisp white and mature bedding, the old granny rug, a new grey fluffy throw. I pulled out a fake plant, placing it on the now clean bedside table that used to hold my retainer and glasses. The room had a new feel, with its chic decor and clean feel. I turned to the en suite, ready to conquer it next. Last year it was the least of my worries, just holding my toothbrush and paste. This year I brought my whole life with me, shampoo's, conditioners, a loofah, a hair scrub, hair mask, face masks, jade rollers, gua shuas and so many more assorted trinkets. Finally I opened my closet, hanging up all my jackets and ski attire. I filled the drawers with my thermals, Peter Alexander Pajamas, delicates, t-shirts, pants, outing wear, and around the house clothes. Everything was perfect, I had just closed my closet door when Max said to me "We're headed down to the rental shop now, you coming?" I nodded, pulling on my snowshoes, and gloves, grabbing my North Face puffer from the mud room and heading out the door.
