Short summary : Stanley meets the timekeeper on his computer and decides to spend ages in his office talking to him. The Narrator gets annoyed that he does not out of the room but does not know what is going on.

(This is based on my personal au(?) where Stanley was made a real person to help the narrator determine how a player would act and which ways to make the game more enjoyable + patch errors.

(If you haven't read my other book based on this "Parable to infinity", you should.)

Everything you need this chapter will be explained in the first part of this chapter so don't worry.)

———————————————————-

Stanley had always had his personal computer in his own office: "427". This computer, although remaining useless for the first few weeks, eventually gave Stanley the ability to sit and rest or even sleep in his office, until he was well -rested and ready to face the parable again.
The reason for this.. was a long story. Nevertheless, the Narrator did agree that maybe, Stanley needed time away too.

So, every time Stanley pressed the option on his screen, it would allow the door to close and provide him with a pillow to rest his head on.
Usually, after this sleep, he would turn the monitor back on and head out. However, one time, his screen stayed brown even after he pressed the "on" button.

Puzzled, Stanley tried to turn it on again yet nothing he did seemed to work. Just as he was on the brink of freaking out, white numbers and text appeared in the middle of his screen.

{ Please enter the current time.
^ ^
12:00 am }

A 'confirm' button lay on the bottom of the screen. After Stanley checked the time on his clock, he entered in '11:13 pm' and clicked confirm.

He didn't know what it had to do with anything. The clocks were running, didn't that mean they already knew the time?

This happened a couple more times after Stanley rested and he eventually got used to it- still having no idea why it started and what it did. The Narrator never spoke about it either. Maybe it was a glitch? Maybe the Narrator didn't know?

After a few more runs, Stanley decided that he would bring the Narrator's attention to the "thing" on his screen.

However, once he started getting out of his chair to lead the Narrator into his office, the door shut before him. Looking towards his screen, terrified, he saw that someone had activated the "sleep" option again on his computer. No wonder the door shut.

More text appeared in the darkness of his room.

{ Hello, Stanley.}

Stanley froze. What was this? Had his system malfunctioned? Was this a virus? How did it know his name? Was it the narrator seeping into his-

{ Sorry about the door.
I really do want you avoid telling anyone about me. }

Who was this?
Without knowing how to communicate, he stared intently at the glowing letters.
After a long wait, new text appeared.

{ You do know you can input things via the keyboard, yes?

That's a way we can talk, I suppose. }

Stanley looked down at his keys : it had been quite a while since he'd needed to use them.
[Who are you?]
He clicked onto the keyboard.

{ Call me the keeper. I keep everything in order around here.
The way you see things, the time, the lighting, the devices, all that and more - that's all me. }
