It wasn't even the break of dawn and Kyle sat in the lounge waiting for the staff to call his name. Waiting for what felt like hours. He was being detained and transferred to a different facility that would take troubled foster kids.
To Kyle that was just another opportunity to just become more and more separated from reality that he is in charge of everything. That no one could control who he wanted to be.
But before that a man, tall with broad shoulders walked in painted in a dark navy blue inform and badges that covered his chest. He approached the old lady sitting at the front counter who hasn't said a word to anyone.
"Can I help you officer", she spoke as if she got caught doing something illegal.
"I need to speak with whoever is in charge", he replied in a gruff tone.
The old woman just nodded and pointed to the office across the hall. He walked in slamming the door behind him and talked to Mrs. Chester who could be heard from miles away.
To Kyle's curiosity, got up still with the restraint jacket on from an earlier fight with one of the staff. He stood in front of the door just waiting for something to happen.
"Kyle you need to wait until I call you", the lady spoke again breaking the mild silence.
"Don't feel like it", he snapped back. Not looking in her direction.
He could tell she was getting pissed off and decided to push his luck more.
"Are you thinking of the police detaining you too?"
"Excuse me!!"
"I saw your face begging to be just like me, detained but under his body. Listening to every demand he tells you. Just like the little toy you are."
The woman got up walking to Kyle at a fast pace about to swing the metal rod of the broom to his head.
"Ms. Lane we do not hit our children regardless of their outburst in you.", Mrs. Chester said as she and the officer looked back and forth between us.
"Mr. Parker this Kyle the new kid who will stay with you until further notice or unless you add him to your family in the future.", She states, but the old woman chuckles walking back behind her desk.
"Yeah right", Kyle muttered.
"I'll take it from here Mrs. Chester", the officer said the guided Kyle out the building to his work vehicle.
"Could've been a regular car so it wouldn't look like I'm being arrested", Kyle asked the officer.
"Well getting a call from the station at 4 in the morning to come get you is not something I would've dreamed about", he spoke back giving the same tone to Kyle.
He was put in the back seat and they took off to what Kyle that was going to be another station but it was just a large condo.
"Can I ask a question", Kyle said leaning closer to the divider.
"Hmmm", the officer stayed looking down at his phone.
'He's not even listening to me', "asshole". Kyle stated out loud.
The officer was about to have a snarky remark to Kyle but soon a woman came to the car in a short red dress and heels that seemed to be able to break her ankles at any time.
"Honey, I'm off to work, get the children up for me please", she pleaded still fixing her hair as she rushed to her car.
"Must be a hooker or something", Kyle muttered leaning back.
"That's it!!!"
The officer got out of the car and pulled Kyle from the back seat dragging him in the house to what looks like the living room.
"What are you going to do, hit me, I've already been through that stage. You could even just let me starve for a week!!!" He yelled at the officer who stared at Kyle before taking a deep breath. He regained his composure and kneeled down in front of Kyle.
"Listen kid, under my roof, I only have a few rules and I'm going to need you to listen"
Kyle shrugged still keeping his eyes locked with the officer.
"Fine.."
"We respect each other in this house no matter what or who they are. Don't have anyone over unless you know exactly who they are-"
"That's a weird rule", Kyle said cutting him off.
"Don't talk back to me or my wife, you understand?" He pointed to Kyle who just nods.
"I'll explain the rest later, but first I'll take this off of you and you can go shower"
"I have a request though", Kyle asked quickly before the officer could undo the rest of the buckle on the kid.
"Go ahead, don't be afraid to talk to me", he stated.
"Is that another one of your rules?" Kyle asked.
"More or less", he chuckled
" Could you not look at my body when you take this off", Kyle said hesitant to say more.
Kyle didn't look at the officer anymore, to know he could push past the argument that the officer was going to look at the young boy's body immediately.
To be continued......
