Chapter Summary: Steve's memory returns to him but things will never calm down for him  and Samantha as the Senate calls for her to attend hearings.

Soundtrack: This Kiss by Carly Rae Jepsen

She woke up in Steve's arms and smiled, she'd forgotten how much she liked that feeling. It hadn't happened too often, it was so rare because they both hated the idea of being caught by her father and having to listen to some emotional, over-protective rant. Their legs were entangled in each other and his arm was rested on her shoulder. She didn't have the heart to move it, despite the fact that she knew he'd wake up with pins and needles in it. His head was buried in her hair, something that amused her no end. She'd always felt safe when wrapped up in his embrace. She hated the idea that a man was her safe haven and yet she loved that idea. She didn't want to move, moving meant facing the fact that she'd been attacked by Rumlow. Moving meant having to deal with her father – who she was still pissed off with – and, potentially, Coulson. She didn't want that just yet, she wanted a couple more minutes of heaven first. So, she decided to pretend to sleep until Steve eventually woke up.

Samantha had been called to Coulson's office, an event she was hoping to avoid for as long as possible. It wasn't that she didn't like Coulson, it was just that she'd have to explain that she had taken a S.H.I.E.L.D. car and then suffered a murder attempt from Rumlow. She knocked on the door and patiently waited for her boss' call. Upon entering the room, she simply said "What's up?" as casually as possible.

He sighed and she knew that whatever it was, it wasn't going to be good "I just got off the phone with Senator Ross. He's calling a senate hearing," Coulson stated and Samantha felt the need for clarification.

"And this hearing is about what exactly?" she asked as though the necessity for details were obvious – and it was really.

"S.H.I.E.L.D. and its continued standing as a government agency and, in particular, your involvement," he stated and her jaw dropped. She should have known there'd be questioning about her involvement within S.H.I.E.L.D. at some point from the moment she discovered who her mother really was but she'd naïvely neglected to even think about it.

"Why? I mean... no I really mean why?" she answered him, feeling slightly worried at the very prospect of a senate hearing.

"You've ended up in dangerous situations at the hands of HYDRA and managed to escape each one of them, coupled with the attempted assassination on the President last month it looks a little suspicious to them,"

"When?" she asked, knowing that there was no way she could avoid going to a senate hearing. "And aren't I supposed to get some kind of summons and some person saying 'you've been served' or something?" she said, she really did want to focus on the latter part of the question, namely because it was so much more entertaining.

"That kind of thing only happens on TV and it's two days from now," he answered and she frowned. That wasn't much time. She'd have to kidnap another of Pepper's suits beforehand. She'd also have to go back to D.C. which she was not looking forward to at all.

Still, she smiled, agreed to go to the hearing and left the room, deciding that she needed to tell Steve.

"I'm wanted at a senate hearing," she said upon entering the room, a frown on her face. He looked at her with only concern displaying on his face and she looked back at him with the same concern.
