It didn't long for everyone to change and meet out on the field. Mr. Aizawa was already there, ready to begin what seemed like an intense first day at UA High.
"What?" the class gasped. "A quirk assessment test?"
"But orientation! We're gonna miss it!" squeaked a girl with pretty brown hair.
Mr. Aizawa didn't skip a beat, "If you really wanna make the big leagues, you can't waste time on pointless ceremonies."
Everyone was shocked at his words.
"I mean, he does have a valid point," Aina murmured a little too loudly. A few students stared at her.
"What are you, a sadist?" jabbed a boy with electric blonde hair.
She shrugged. "I'm just really work oriented." It tends to happen when you live in an orphanage and look after a bunch of children everyday.
"Better that than naive." Everyone turned their attention back to Mr. Aizawa, who overheard the conversation. "Take note of those who understand the circumstances of their situation. They'll be your role models; the ones that you'll want to rely on going forward."
Aina was honored by his statement.
Mr. Aizawa continued, "Here at UA, we're not tethered to traditions. That means I get to run my class however I see fit." Everyone was growing more nervous as he spoke. "You've been taking standardized tests most of your lives. But you never got to use your Quirks in physical exams before. The country's still trying to pretend we're all created equal by not letting those with the most power excel. It's not rational. One day, the Ministry of Education will learn."
He turned to face the boy with spiky ash blonde hair, the one who was causing a commotion at the start of class.
"Bakugo," Mr. Aizawa addressed him, "you managed to get the most points on the entrance exam."
Everyone looked at him. Aina could hardly believe that this loud, obnoxious wreck scored first place in UA's standard entrance exams.
"What was your farthest distance throw with a softball when you were in Junior High?"
"Sixty-seven meters, I think," answered the boy named Bakugo.
"Right. Try doing it with your Quirk."
Bakugo stepped forward, taking a softball that Mr. Aizawa brought for the class. As instructed, he walked towards a drawn white circle in the dirt field and took his position.
"Anything goes, just stay in the circle," the teacher instructed. Everyone watched the first place examinee with excitement and anticipation. "Go on, you're wasting our time."
Bakugo stretched his arms. "All right, man, you asked for it."
His step forward was heavy, his muscles flexing as he took form. He wound up, with his teeth baring as he launched the ball.
The result was quite literally explosive. The ball shot through the clouds of the open sky like a missile. A trail of fire and smoke was left behind, and everyone's jaw dropped in awe.
"All of you need to know your maximum capabilities," Aizawa stated. He tracked the ball's distance, his device beeping once it hit the ground. "It's the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a pro hero."
The teacher showed everyone his screen, and in brightly lit numbers was the number '705.2'.
The class was starstruck.
