For the next two weeks they did nothing. Donovan alternated between fitful unconsciousness and shivering feverishness, but his eyes had lost their purple glow and he didn't sprout wings again. Benson scratched tally marks on the stone walls to count down the days. Caleb tended to Donovan, holding cups of water up for him to sip and spoon-feeding him the gruel that the servants left for them to eat.
Except Caleb wasn't sure that they were servants, because he was pretty sure there was some weird slavery stuff going on in this society. The slave that brought them food each day was dressed in rags as ratty as the prisoners' and her hair was unkempt and dirty.
"Excuse me," Caleb asked her one day. "Are you a slave?"
The slave almost dropped the bowl of gruel in surprise. "A slave, sir? What is that?"
Caleb felt guilty but he explained, "It's when you're forced to do work for someone else and you aren't compensated at all."
The slave thought for a moment. "Well, the Queen makes sure that all of her servants receive food and shelter..."
"What are you bothering her for?" Benson asked. "Thanks for the gruel. You can go now."
The slave skittered away, clearly disconcerted by the conversation.
"Something doesn't sit right with me here," Caleb groused. "I feel like basic human rights are being violated in some way."
Benson rolled his eyes. "Yeah, we're literally imprisoned with a rabid monster who could infect us at any moment. I feel like that's violating basic human rights. But today is our last day!"
"Hmmm," Caleb hummed. He tapped his chin in thought.
Later the guards dragged them back into the throne room to stand before Gemori and the Queen.
"Thank goodness you're alright, Benson!" The Queen said. "You and that curly-haired boy are free to go. Dismissed!"
But Donovan was still chained up. A group of guards were hauling him away.
"Hold on!" Caled said. "Where are you taking him?"
"The sick one will be sold to work as a servant off-planet. He won't be our problem soon enough," Gemori sneered.
Caleb squared his posture and cleared his throat. "Wait! I need to say something. I've been observing your country and I think that you guys have a slave-based economy. And that's not okay! You can't just sell people to work against their will. Slaves are people too!"
Massive cheers erupt. The guards all dropped their spears and took off their space helmets. Benson hopped up and down, clapping his hands in delight.
"What is your name, young man?" the Queen asked, delicately wiping a single tear from the corner of her eye.
"Caleb!" he said boldly.
Everyone in the throne room chanted his name. Two guards lifted Caleb on their shoulders to parade him around. He was no longer Caleb, the youtuber. He was no longer Caleb, the interdimensional traveler. He was Caleb, the revolutionizer. He had saved the galaxy.
I saved these people from emancipation on accident, he remarked to himself. I'm... a libertarian.
A pair of strong hands yanked Caleb around and he was suddenly facing Donovan. His chains were gone. He grinned mischievously.
"You rescued me, Sweet Cheeks," Donovan growled. "How can I ever repay you?"
Caleb was mesmerized by his devilishly handsome face. Donovan's unkempt hair curled over his brow. His stubble had grown out into a thick beard. Caleb couldn't help but stare at those pillowly lips and the soft tongue that slid out to wet his bottom lip.
As if magnetically drawn to each other, they crushed their mouths together into a sexy kiss. Donovan's hands slid down Caleb's back and gripped his bottom fiercely. Everyone clapped and cheered as they passively frenched in the middle of the crowd.
Suddenly the throne room doors burst open! Donovan instinctively jumped in front of Caleb to sheild him. Caleb gasped and looked over at who had arrived.
A 5'9" skinny woman (with NO thigh gap) floated in the entrance, silhouetted by the bright desert sun. Red sparks of magick flew from each hand, igniting pools of fire beneath her. Her blonde hair (with blue and purple streaks) whipped around her face, making her look like a vengeful demon.
"I bet you thought you'd seen the last of me. I don't THINK so!" she shrieked.
Zade Holder had crashed the party!
