Chapter 4
Worm demonEvelyn-
There was another trial today, the humans actually managed to get their hands on a real witch. I didn't know her, but she had dark hair and a little cat palisman. We managed to get the cat out, but when the witch was fleeing the stupid human kid with the antlers found her. He told his brother and they gathered the rest of the town.
We lost her. We lost another witch.. And I don't even know her name.Y/N
"Don't worry Luz, we can get it working soon," Amity places her arms around her girlfriend's shoulders, a sympathetic smile on her face. Our second attempt at the portal door failed: this time with palismen, resulting in a fire. Vee managed to extinguish it with some sort of human magic fire repellant.
But we've been here for a week now, and nothing we've done is working... How much longer will we wait here? Without knowing what's going on with our family back home? I miss Raine.. and I know Hunter misses Darius and Eber.
Vix glances up at me, her eyes reflecting our outward misery, 'I'm sorry I failed' she seems to whisper. She clearly misses home too- I mean we all do.
"Well what else can we do Amity?" Luz stares up, she looks hollow. There are circles under her eyes, as dark as bruises. She hasn't been herself, and I can't reach out to her because we aren't exactly that close. I was just dragged along with the rest of the group.
But I know how she feels: to be a faliure- I've felt that many times before... and it's not a good mentality to be in.With Willow's help, I get the palismen out of these 'hamster wheel' things Luz designed, and return them to their rightful owners, Flapjack ruffling his feathers, disgruntled.
"Well what else can we try?" Gus mumbles, kicking a rock. He's obviously not happy...
"Why don't we all take a break," Willow suggests, awkwardly, "I'll bring out some of those 'smoothies' Camila was talking about?"
"Or," I straighten, I've had this idea for a while now, "we could redecorate the old house! maybe uh- giving it a nicer atmosphere would make us feel less afraid?"
"I don't see how that would help us to make the portal door," Vee snaps with a cold glare. She is still not happy around Hunter and me, and the others are catching on. Willow keeps trying to make excuses for us all to hang out but I really don't think she's going to achieve much. All I know is that Vee hates us, for good reason really. We hurt her, she was a species brought back from extinction that my coven experimented on... I can't even begin to imagine what she's been through. I wish there was something I could do, but there isn't.
"Well I think it's a good idea," Hunter stands to my rescue, his ears red and a nervous expression on his face, "if we create a less stressful environment it could increase our work ethic."
Luz nods along the whole time, although she's clearly distracted. It's only been a week and she's already desperate. It's only been two failed attempts. We weren't expecting this to work first or even second try so I don't know why she's so worked up about it. We'll get there soon... I know we will, after everything we've been through we're here. We survived. We can survive this.
"We should go back to Gravesfield today and pick up some decorating supplies," Willow claps her hands together, grinning wildly.
My thoughts return to that transport worm, the stench of human perspiration, the claustriphobia, the shouts and screams...
