It's dawn. Nearly dawn, anyways. I have to go before any wolf gets me or stops to check up to see if I'm still there. I can scent more wolves up there. More wolves that I've ever seen before together, except when we're fighting. I take a deep breath and stop pacing around the room.
Quick as a flash, I crawl up the tunnel. I push through the top dirt and peer around. I'm in the shadows of the forest. I haul myself up, heart racing from fear. I look to the clearing. They aren't checking yet. Then, before I can change my mind, I run into the forest. I don't even look back as I bolt like I'm being chased. Which will happen soon, I'm sure.
I tumble over roots and branches. Suddenly I get a cold feeling down my spine. I can hear them barking with surprise and anger. They found out I left.
Bird, do this for Bird.
I run harder, my feet skimming over the branches. I realize that I must be close to the Pack right now. I howl for them, a warning howl. I glance behind me as I run. Two wolves burst though, running fast towards me. Then two more come in through the sides. I turn my head back and run with all my energy I have left. I won't make it... they're gaining in fast. Oh Bird, please be safe, and don't come after me. I plead for them to come soon, to help me.
I hear a yelp and a growl. My heart raised. My Pack found me! But I don't look back. Suddenly two wolves appeared in front of me, and I think for a moment that I'm completely trapped. But then I catch their scent and they race past me.
I whip around to help. I lunge for the nearest enemy wolf. I grab some fur, and I yank hard. I hear a yelp of pain, and then I feel teeth in my back leg. I kick hard, and feel hard bone being knocked away from the force. It's dark, and I'm fighting with my scent and feel more than sight. The wolf gets me again, and I can see a flash of white. I snarl and grab it's ear. I bite down hard and yank away. They get back at me by clawing me and biting my shoulder. I can't help but give out a short yelp. That was the shoulder I wounded in the fight for Bird. Angry, I lunge forward one last time, grab their scruff, and pull my head down hard. I hear a whack, then silence for my opponent.
I jump into the battle to help... who was it? Luna? I bite the wolf is fighting, and together Luna and I drive the wolf back, snapping at him anytime he comes near. When he realizes that he's the only left, he turns tail and flees into the morning forest.
I breath hard, and face Luna. She barks to me, "Thanks for the help."
"No, thank you for saving my sorry tail," I say quickly. "But there's no time for that. Who's leading this patrol?" She points at... oh no. Fang.
He turns to me, and narrows his eyes. "What are you doing? Why did you lead enemy wolves into our territory?"
I stare back at him, inpatient. "Bird's captured! We need to save her quickly, before they take her away. There's no time to talk. I just escaped, and the Moon Pack is on our territory, down by the meadow where the caves are."
Fang growls. "Why should we go? It could be a trick."
I whip my tail. "There's no time! I'm leaving to go save her, whether you're coming or not." The others must've believed me, because when I race into the forest, I can hear the thudding of paws behind me as I run. I'm out of breath, but that's the last thing on my mind I'm worried about. I tumble through the forest, despite my injuries from the battle.
I come skidding to a halt in the clearing. My heart drops to my paws.
They're gone.
