"Chan, there's no need for this, it's a dance classroom and you have your side, and we have ours. As long as you guys stay over there and we stay over here there shouldn't be an issue. Just leave it be for the next few days while they work on your side of the studio."
He huffs and walks away, even though it's really not that big of a deal. Hyunjin still wanted to be a part of their dance team and had become close with Minho and Felix, so Chan couldn't really say or do anything about it with them, instead he wanted to put it on me and have me miss a few days of ballet classes with the girls, which I refuse to do unless I'm injured beyond dancing or dying sick. It's unethical to do that, so why would I when I have no problems?
Jasmine comes prancing happily over to me and smiles my direction as she approaches. It's a little odd to see her this way, then I notice a mark on the top of her hand. I look up at her curiously and she looks down at her hand as she gasps in shock. She must not have noticed the mark before and wanted to go wash it off... only instead of going and washing she grabs my hand and pulls me into the hallway, down the stairs, and into the office where we change everyday. The small locker room was enough for us to talk and not be heard but it felt odd to come in here so suddenly.
"Why did you drag me in here to talk Jasmine?"
"Because... I didn't want our brothers to hear us. I need to really tell you something about things going on but you can't tell them you know or even ask about them nonchalantly. You got it? I need you to promise to me you won't say anything about anything we talk about."
"Woah woah woah, breathe and slow down, I won't say anything if it really means that much to you but you have to understand... Nothing right now will make any less sense than my sudden weakness and genuine care about things going on around me."
She takes a deep breath and grabs both of my shoulders as if she's trying to keep me from collapsing. I look down at her hand and see what looks like a tattoo of the sun. I gasp and grab her hand to get a closer look at the marking. She snatches it back and looks at the ground before sighing and whispering something to herself.
"Okay, Rose, the world we live in is full of things, magical things. My ancestor, thousands of years ago, was Clytie, the Nymph who fell in love with Apollo and sat each day to watch him pass across the sky. She eventually became rooted to the ground where she sat, after 9 days and 9 nights. On the final day of her life as a Nymph, she became green in her body, and her face was tanned and her blonde hair yellowed from sun exposure... She became a sunflower. Her descendants are called Helianths, and when we fall in love we gain the mark of Clytie, a sun in the first place that the one we love touched us. Once in love, we have 9 days and 9 nights before we also turn into a sunflower to get the one we love to love us back. I accidentally fell in love, and I don't think he loves me back. I need your help Rose. If he doesn't love me back, I'll basically die! Oh, and Jisung and Jeongin are angels from another universe."
My mouth sits open as I hard stare at my bestfriend who basically just told me she's a mythological creature and will die if I don't help her. She has to be insane right? Then again... Felix does have that same mark on his arm and has been with his girlfriend for a few years now... But the Jisung and Jeongin thing has to be fake. Then something flashed past behind Jasmine and suddenly there's 2 figures on either side of her.
"She's telling the truth Rose."
Jisung's voice is soft but clearly frustrated.
"Which part? The fantasy creature part about you or her being a child of a myth?"
"I know nothing about your world myths, but we're really angels."
I snort and roll my eyes. Like I'll buy that. He sighs and steps back. A whoosh fills the room and behind Jisung appears these solid black wings proving his being an angel. I stumble back a step slamming into the locker.
"N-no. Those are mechanical right?! They can't be real wings, that's not possible. Angels are fantasy, fantastic creatures, you're- you're just a normal guy. A normal high schooler. There's no way you're really an angel."
He shakes his head and walks closer to me while looking at the ground. I try to step back away from him but my foot just slams into the the lockers behind me. He grabs my wrist and pulls my hand to him and indicates for me to touch his wings. Mesmerized by their sheen, I do. I stick my fingers into the feathers and feel warmth and pin feather tips, just like a bird's wings. I gasp and yank my hand back, snapping out of my trance.
"Okay, fine, they're real. So what? Why does this correlate to me?"
"It's because there's so much to this world of yours that you're missing even though it's sitting right in front of you. You need to be careful who you're around and what choices you make now because they'll affect your future drastically."
"And you know this because... what? You're a psychic angel?"
"No, because of what Jasmine told us and Chan. Anyway, we should go back before he gets suspicious."
He tucks his wings... somehow, there weren't marks in his shirt or anything like that so I have no idea where they came from or went. Jeongin gives Jasmine a shy smile before turning to leave, too. I look to Jasmine who's blushing so much it's concerning. I wonder if that's who she fell in love with that's making her stress.
"Jasmine-"
"Let's go Rose! We have a class of tiny ballerinas to teach, and we don't want the Hip-Hop boys to be influenced my them and to influence them!"
She races away before I can say anything or ask any questions. I snort and roll my eyes while following behind her. Today the stairs seem steeper than normal and there's an odd ringing in my ears again. I space out while making my way up the stairs and hear my parents voices in my head again... them screaming at me how horrible I am... telling me I'm useless, worthless, hopeless... that I am and will never be anything... that it's all my fault...
"Mom... mom I'm sorry..."
My eyes fill and spill over with tears as I kneel where I stand to catch my breath and curl into a ball. I feel the blood running down my arms all over again, the dripping... the cold from losing the blood but the warmth from the open wounds, the lashes burning, my legs aching while the screaming continues. The pain that's relentless yet so familiar but I won't make any noise, I don't want to make it worse. No matter how many times they say my name... if I respond, move, breathe... it gets worse before better, but I don't want it to get worse. The screaming and yelling is just getting louder. Them the ground is gone.
