The feel of the wind brushing her face was soothing, the gentle breeze tossing her wavy red hair about as she sat on the sand, the small grains of gold sticking to her arms and legs. It wasn't extremely cold, but a slight crisp chill hung in the air as she breathed in the salty tang of the sea, inhaling the flavour of the saltwater as she listened to the waves crashing onto the beach, spraying small flecks of white foamy mist onto the sand, before falling back into the tide.

Annie flicked her bottle green eyes upwards towards the sky, which used to be a clear, pale blue, but was now painted a beautiful mixture of ambers and corals as the bright orange sun slowly disappeared into the horizon. The beautiful clear waters of the oceans started shimmering into a soft peachy colour, as the horizon continued to swallow up the flaming orb of energy that was setting fire to the clouds above, outlining the entire world in gold.

Her eyes flickered closed, everything silent except from her gentle breathing and the sound of the crashing waves against the sand, as well as occasional squawking from seagulls that flew overhead.

The sound of soft approaching footsteps brings her out of her little reverie, and Annie turned her head to find her friend Isla return with a hand woven basket filled with something that clattered every time she walked. Isla had a big happy grin on her face, her blonde hair blowing rapidly in the wind as the other hand that wasn't occupied with the basket held a straw hat onto her head so that it didn't blow away. She set the basket down next to Annie, who peered down to find it filled with all kinds of appealing seashells and exquisite sea glass. Annie gingerly picked up a stunning piece of teal green sea glass, and held it up to the sunset, the sunlight causing it to shimmer and twinkle like a precious piece of emerald.

"These are beautiful Isla. Where'd you find so many?" Annie whispered quietly, still examining the alluring piece of glass in her hands, gently rubbing the smooth eroded surface with her thumb. Isla grinned wider.

"They're everywhere. I spent like the last 2 hours finding them. It was worth it though," Isla replied, picking up a seashell and tossing it upwards, before catching it with her hand again. Annie silently agreed.

She slowly pressed the piece of teal glass to her lips, the sharp saltiness resting on the tip of her tongue. Annie gently lowered her hand and clutched it in her palms, licking her lips slightly and tasting the tangy ocean air again.

"School starts again tomorrow. You excited?" Isla questioned, turning the seashell in her hands, her eyes fixated on a fixed spot in the horizon. Annie was still focused on the piece of beautiful teal glass, but she nodded none-the-less.

That was a lie. To be honest, Annie was dreading it. School was so far away from the countryside where they lived, so far away from the ocean waves and so far away from home. And she hated it. Hated being stuck in a dorm full of mean judgemental girls, who teased you for being shy and laughed at you if you weren't pretty. Hated being forced to be in a class full of people who hated her, and acted like she didn't exist and that she was worthless. Hated and tired of being treated like absolute garbage, like a speck of dust in the attic or a useless weak pathetic thing. She hated it, hated it, hated it.

"We'll get to see everyone again. Katniss, Peeta, Madge, Gale....," Isla trailed off, her eyes still focusing on the horizon. Annie shut her eyes and nodded again.

That was true. There were a few people who were nice to her. Annie guess she considered them as friends, although sometimes she felt a bit left out from all of them, like they all had some kind of connection that she wasn't a part of, and she was just an awkward on-looker on their friendship. An intruder. Like she shouldn't be there.
