I have no clue what I was thinking about all my actions in the past 15 minutes.
I shivered in the cold as Carl, Aurelia and I walked out of the station. The area around the station was now empty, seeing that it was now midnight. A gloomy air hung around us as I stepped into a puddle and winced when I felt water seep into my socks. The wild rain was reduced to a light drizzle by the time we had gotten out.
"Do you actually know where Daphne is?" Aurelia questioned, breaking the monotonous silence.
"Not really, no." I replied hesitantly in a mumble as Aurelia sighed deeply at my response and Carl's footsteps came to a screeching halt.
"You lied? Of course you fucking did. Now, you've gotten us into another pickle." He scoffed, taking a step closer to me.
"I did what I had to, he was threatening Aurelia's boyfriend-"
"Well, now he's threatening all of us! And it's because of your stupidity! Why did you even think saying that was a good idea?" Carl was dangerously close to me as he continued to speak. I heard Aurelia scramble towards us but before she could push him away another intimidating voice interrupted the argument.
"Hey, big boy! Hands off."
We looked back to see Leo standing in the entryway with his hands crossed over his chest in a threatening stance. My eyes widened and Carl looked at him then me as he stepped back while Aurelia watched the scene in amusement.
"I mean, sir, I don't want anymore uh hanky-panky in my station." Leo stuttered out, changing his statement as he caught Carl's glare.
"Your station?"
"Hanky-panky?"
Carl and Aurelia said simultaneously. "Chief is taking a short trip to Los Angeles, which leaves me incharge of the ATPD and as officiating Chief by then, I order you to leave Ms. Clark alone." He replied and Carl scoffed in response while Aurelia gave him a little clap.
"This is all stupid." Carl muttered as he departed, getting into his car and zooming away.
"Thanks." I breathed out and Leo rubbed his neck sheepishly as he shrugged, "It's my job really."
"Okay, Walsh. We'll be taking your leave then." Aurelia grabbed my hand as we bid Leo goodbye, "See ya in three days, ma'am." He replied with a lop-sided grin which I returned, feeling my stomach twist in knots.
Aurelia helped me into her car's passenger seat, then sat on the driver's seat as she started to back the car and drive towards the hospital to check on Bridget.
"Got any bright ideas?" I asked, pushing some of my sandy hair away from my eyes.
"Not as good as your spontaneity." Aurelia retorted sarcastically and I slumped in my seat. "I did what I thought of, ok?" Aurelia nodded slowly in understanding as she steered the car towards the hospital.
"We need to find Daphne, as soon as possible." Aurelia stated and I nodded my head in agreement.
"Yup, we're going to work as detectives now." I observed and Aurelia chuckled at my statement.
"Should we hire a private one? They can help us look for her." I proposed but Aurelia shook her head, "I don't think anyone is trustworthy at this point. Especially when the Grave Markers are being dragged into this."
"What do you suggest?" I questioned. Aurelia paused in thought as she pondered on our options.
"I do have an idea, but I don't know if it'll work." She said hesitantly and I urged her to continue.
"I think we need to dig deep in the past, if Daphne actually ran away on her own, she definitely had help but what if..." Aurelia trailed off as she pulled up in the parking lot of Ash Hospital.
"What if what?" I asked.
"What if she didn't escape but was taken by the people who're trying to frame her?" Aurelia suggested and my eyes went wide.
"Framed?"
"Think about it, why us? The attacks, the bullets, the Grave Markers. All of it is just a big coincidence. Whatever or whoever this is, is trying very hard to get all four of us in trouble and I'm damn sure their biggest target is Daphne." Aurelia's words instilled a deep sense of fear in my heart. Whoever this was, they were trying very hard to make our lives hard and keep us on our toes at all times.
"So you think this is linked to our pasts?" I questioned slowly after a moment. "Could be. A common event or a common enemy." She shrugged in response.
Her and I started to get out of the car but as I tried to move out, I felt a sharp pain shoot up to my abdomen, I looked down to see blood seeping through my bandage and winced at the state of the wound.
Aurelia rushed to my side as she started to help me out of the car. I leaned onto her side, grasping my waist from the other hand as I felt my hands getting soaked in blood.
Aurelia rushed me into a ward as she made me sit down on a chair and I clutched my side harder, feeling more blood pour out, "I'll fetch a nurse, be back in a sec." She said and I nodded, my face scrunched in pain.
Aurelia rushed away to look for a nurse and I kept my eyes shut, trying to distract myself from the pain. I let my mind flood with thoughts of Nico, Daphne and Amelia. The time spent with them all my life along with the events of my life before the past two days.
"Ivy! Psst!"
My head shot up and I looked around as I heard Daphne's familiar voice. My eyes searched the empty hallways, trying to get a glimpse of her dark brown hair or a glance from her ebony eyes, but to no avail. I tried to lift myself off the chair but my body had other plans, collapsing back on the chair.
Aurelia returned with a nurse, who escorted me into the ward and bandaged up my injury, while Aurelia went to wash her hands. As she finished up treating my wound, there was a constant nagging in my head about the voice. I was sure I had heard it, but it seemed as though my body was actually betraying me.
Aurelia and I made our way to Bridget's room and found her asleep, most likely forced by the doctors into the state. We stayed in the hospital in case there would be any need for help. I talked to Amelia and asked her about the kids while Aurelia called her boyfriend, letting him know that she would be spending the night in the hospital.
"What about Daph? Is she okay?" Amelia asked through the phone while I rubbed my temples.
"Uh she's..." I trailed off, assuming she didn't have time to check out the news, Aurelia's ears perked up as I waved my hands, trying to get her attention and mouthed my question to her as to what I should say. She violently shook her head and I cleared my throat before speaking, "She's- uh she's fine. We're trying to get her out on bail."
"Oh okay. Thanks for everything Ivy." She said softly and I felt my heart clench in guilt while Aurelia was giving me a thumbs up on my response.
"It's nothing." I mumbled out.
"No really. You didn't have to. Also, Nico's fine, he's having fun with Ivy and Ivan." She said and I smiled.
"Get some rest Amelia, everything will be fine."
We bid our goodbyes and I hung up, trying to believe the lie I had just spoken was the truth.
