Two weeks later...
...
Aleckina walked into the cockpit and took the seat next to Hera. Ezra came in soon after and sat in the seat behind her, putting his feet up on the back of her chair.
"Ezra," Hera said, sounding annoyed. Her warning for him to get his feet off Aleckina's chair. Ezra rolled his eyes and put his feel down.
Kanan, Zeb, and Chopper had walked to the nearby town, trying to find jobs for the crew. They were low on food and fuel, which kept most of the crew in a bit of a soured mood.
Sabine's voice then came over the intercom. "Hey, Kina, can you come here? I want you to critique a new piece of art," she asked. The crew had begun to call Aleckina by Kanan's pet name for her since it was a lot easier to say.
"Sure," Aleckina answered, but when she stood up, she became very dizzy. She took a couple of steps forward and almost fell, grabbing onto Ezra's seat for balance.
"Woah, you ok?" Ezra asked.
Aleckina didn't answer. There was a sharp pain in her temples. A vision, she thought, recognizing the symptoms. An even sharper pain radiated through her midsection. She fell to her knees. When she wasn't prepared, visions were always painful. They were painful when she forced the visions as well, but not nearly as much as this. She closed her eyes, letting the fleeting images take over. They would anyway.
Image after image passed through her sight. Some were of events already passed, like being taken from her home. But some were things she knew had not happened. Suddenly, the images slowed. They changed, hitting darker points in her mind, as visions do. Things that would bother her more. She saw Kanan. He was standing protectively in front of the closed entrance of a communications tower. The next scene. Kanan strapped down to a vertical table. The Inquisitor pointed Kanan's own lightsaber at his throat. More and more dark pictures and scenes passed through her mind. Then, finally, the images stopped.
Aleckina opened her eyes, finding herself on her knees, holding her head, between Ezra and Hera. She nervously met Hera's eyes, tears forming in her own. Surely Kanan had told her the symptoms of her visions. She saw in the Twi'lek's eyes that she was right. Ezra, evidently, did not, as he was freaking out.
"What happened? Are you alright? Say something," Ezra practically begged.
"Ezra," Hera said gently. "Calm down. She's fine. It was just a vision."
"Are visions always that painful?" Ezra questioned.
"Usually," Aleckina answered quietly, still a bit out of it.
"You should try to rest," Hera suggested. "I'll send Kanan in to check on you when he gets back."
Aleckina nodded and Ezra walked her to her and Sabine's room. He told Sabine what had happened, and the two decided to let the smaller girl have some time to herself.
Aleckina layed down on her bunk, staring blankly at the ceiling, still trying to comprehend just what she had seen. She soon heard Kanan and the others return, but made no move to get up. Hera seemed to be angry about something, and an unfamiliar voice could be heard. Aleckina could make out some of the conversation, however.
"Where's Kina?" Kanan asked, seemingly sudden.
"She, uh-" Ezra started, but Hera interupted him.
"She had a vision and seemed a bit... off afterwords. She's in her room," she explained calmly.
"Well," said the new voice, "I sincerely hope your friend is alright, but we really should be going. My suplier is not fond of waiting."
"She's my sister," Kanan said roughly. He obviously was not having a very good day.
Kanan's light footsteps could be heard coming down the hall, stopping in front of Sabine and Aleckina's room. He knocked on the door, even though he knew Sabine was not in the room.
Aleckina moved her fingers slightly, using the force to open the door. Kanan stepped in, knowing already what he would find. Ten years, and he still couldn't forget how the visions affected the girl.
"Kina?" he said. When he didn't get an answer, he continued stubbornly, "Kina, I'm coming up. Are you going to give me a place to sit?"
Aleckina sat up, moving to the side. When Kanan had sat down beside her, she sat still for a moment, before suddenly throwing her arms around his middle, squeezing tightly. The tears she had been holding in fell, like a tsunami, flooding the plains of her face. She buried her face in Kanan's shoulder. Kanan said nothing, but held her close to his side.
"They're becoming darker," Aleckina cried softly. "The visions. They've been getting darker, but this was the worst. I - I can feel the pull... o-of the Dark Side. It's getting stronger."
Kanan's arms tightened around her small shoulders instintively. "It's ok, Kina," he wispered. You have people here who are willing to help you."
"Kanan, I'm scared," Aleckina wispered back.
"I know," Kanan wispered soothingly.
"You got captured," Aleckina said. "In the vision."
"Do you know it will happen?" Kanan questioned, going through the same process they always did.
"Well," Aleckina thought aloud. "No. One can never be sure of a visions honesty." She used almost the same words their Master had used before.
"Do you remember what we used to do? When you were little?" Kanan asked.
"We tried a lot of things," the girl replied truthfully.
Kanan grinned. It was true. Once, they tried having her walk around blindfolded, though it was more for Kanan's own amusement. Master Depa Bilaba had been angry for almost a week. "Well, which one worked?" Kanan asked, not giving up.
Aleckina thought for a few moments, before grinning sheepishly, "Refresh my memory?"
"We would close our eyes," Kanan began, watching to make sure the girl closed her eyes. "And then, we would think about what you saw. We would think of every possible answer, and then we would stop. That way, we wouldn't worry about it, because it might not even happen. But if it does, we'll be ready," he explained.
Aleckina nodded. "I remember, now," she said. She followed Kanan's instructions, and soon seemed to be back to her normal self. Just having the man by her side would help with her visions when she was little, and even more so, now, after they were separate for so long.
