Tosiek was on his way to his first testosterone injection appointment. there was loads of hoops to jump through and it took some time to convince his dad that there was nothing to worry about, but regardless, it was time. what comforted Tosiek the most was that Leon was in the backseat of the car with him, adamant that he be there for the first shot.
they made it to the clinic and found a parking spot, and finally they ventured inside. it looked like any old medical office to Tosiek, but he knew that this was going to change his life. in an hour his life would be altered forever. and finally in a good way. not like when his father put him into therapy and he almost lost Leon, but in a way that was finally happy. and surprisingly, Tosiek was finally happy.
they took their seats after stating why they were there and waited for the doctor. the pediatrician was named Dr. Kaminski, and she had been working with transgender teens for tens years of her work life. Tosiek wasn't at all worried about her capabilities.
they waited for sometime, and Tosiek started to get anxious, Leon noticed and grabbed his hand, shooting him a reassuring smile.
"the needle will be over in a second." Leon said. "and you'll get used to it, I promise."
Tosiek nodded, a small lump forming in his throat. he didn't want to appear nervous, but he felt as if it was within his right to be. he had never been a fan of needles, but they didn't exactly scare him. he was more than ready for this.
the doctor called them in, and they followed her down the hall to a room, where Tosiek took a seat on the exam table.
"I don't want you to be nervous." the doctor said, smiling at him. "I've done this many times before."
she started to prepare the needle and the testosterone (which was a prescription that Tosiek's dad had filled out and brought with them) and Tosiek had to remind himself to breathe.
Leon made his way across the room, and grabbed his hand, and Tosiek relaxed into the feeling of comfort.
he closed his eyes while it happened. all he felt was the pinch and the strange sensation of liquid being injected into his body. once it was over, he expected to feel euphoric, but instead he felt relieved. relieved that he was here and that Leon was there with him for the first shot.
