I need a break. These recent happenings, they're too much for the girls. I need to get away for a while.

"Hey, Chlis," I spoke when she answered the call. "Hey, is something wrong? Want me to come to you?"

"No, no  Stay there, I just want to tell you something."

"What is it?"

"Can you tell our manager that I'll be going away for I don't know how long, I just need to get away for a while. I can't risk you girls anymore," I heard her sigh at what I said. I'm sorry. "Are you sure about that?" She asked. "Yes, Chlis. I'm sure of it, and can you also tell the girls I'm sorry."

"Sure, I will, but where are you?"

"There's no need for you to know that, Chlis, I'm fine here. I'm not at our place anymore so you'll waste time going there, I'll see you guys in a few months I guess."

"Shy, wait–"

"Bye Chlis. I'll miss you."

I ended the call.

I didn't actually leave. Yet.

I'm still packing my stuff, well not all of them to assure them that I'll be back soon. I just need a break from all this. I'm sure the danger will follow me as I am a magnet for danger.

So fun to be me. Fuck.

"Couz, you ready?" I heard Laura speak behind my back. "I'll be done in a few."

"'Kay, come down whenever you're ready."

I turned to her and smiled.

I packed only a few clothes since where I'm going is my own place, I have lots of clothes there. My own house. The girls doesn't know about that place, even my own parents and siblings, just Laura. It finished building last year and started the previous year, it's not that big but not that small either. A place fit for me, it has three bedrooms and of course, the other two are just for guests which I never had. I don't even know why I wanted two more bedrooms when I wanted no one to know about it.

Dummy me.

After I packed, I went down and caught Laura watching Netflix in the living room.

"Hey, I'm done."

"About time. Let's go, I wanna leave also."

"Eh? How about Karla? You guys fought?"

"Not really but I'm kind of pissed at her."

"Why?"

"Because she shouted at you and blamed you for what happened. She, of all people, knows that you didn't want that to happen. For goodness' sake, you're fucking risking your life out there to protect them, to protect your family, even me!"

"Laura, calm down."

"And you don't even have anyone to protect you. You keep working hard to protect us, but who's protecting you, Winter? Who? Fucking who?!"

"I can handle myself, Laur, I've been living with myself for years now."

She scoffed, "You've been stabbed and shot and almost shot again for the past week and you can handle yourself? Fuck off."

"Hayaan mo na si Karla. I'm sure she's worried about me, about all of us. She's the eldest after all. And I don't want you guys to fight because of me, fix it, okay?"

She sighed in response.

"Let's just go. I'll talk to her when we get to your place. & You're my priority right now."
